Yeah, I watched it.  I thought it was a good show except for the usual stupid questions Oprah tends to ask!  ::)  It never fails, you know? You'd think that with all the TS's she's had on her show over the years, she has learned something but...

Is it easy for you to call someone a moron who came from harder circumstances then you did who now is the richest self-made women in the United States?  Makes you look like the dummy there eh?  After all, if O could do it, with all the roadblocks in her way, what's your excuse?  I don't really like her, but at least I do respect her, for what she has done, for her control over it, and for who she reaches.  After all, more people pay attention to her smacking her lips than read all the trans/gay/lesbian blogs and sites.

Remember, she was not just poor, she was Po.  As it says in Wiki....

Born in rural Mississippi to a poor unwed teenaged mother, and later raised in an inner city Milwaukee neighborhood, Winfrey was raped at the age of nine, and at fourteen, gave birth to a son who died in infancy.[13] Sent to live with the man she calls her father, a barber in Tennessee, Winfrey landed a job in radio while still in high school and began co-anchoring the local evening news at the age of 19.[14] Her emotional ad-lib delivery eventually got her transferred to the daytime talk show arena, and after boosting a third-rated local Chicago talk show to first place,[6] she launched her own production company and became internationally syndicated.

So, what's your excuse for being a failure?  Could anyone have a worse life story?  A harder time to crawl out of?  I doubt it.

So all the girls and boys in here boo-hoo their poor lives and how little money they make?  Do you have any idea of how much she is worth?   Again, from Wiki....

Born in rural poverty, then raised by a mother on welfare in a poor urban neighborhood, Winfrey became a millionaire at age 32 when her talk show went national. Because of the amount of revenue the show generated, Winfrey was in a position to negotiate ownership of the show and start her own production company. By 1994 the show's ratings were still thriving and Winfrey negotiated a contract that earned her nine figures a year. Considered the richest woman in entertainment by the early 1990s, at age 41 Winfrey's wealth crossed another milestone when with a net worth of $340 million, she replaced Bill Cosby as the only African American on the Forbes 400. Although blacks are 12% of the U.S. population, Winfrey has remained the only black person wealthy enough to rank among America's 400 richest people nearly every year since 1995 (Black Entertainment Television founder Bob Johnson briefly joined her on the list from 2001-2003 before his ex-wife reportedly acquired part of his fortune, though he returned in 2006).[65]

With a 2000 net-worth of $800 million, Winfrey is believed to have been the richest African American of the 20th century. To celebrate her status as a historical figure, Professor Juliet E.K. Walker of the University of Illinois created the course "History 298: Oprah Winfrey, the Tycoon."[66]

Forbes' international rich list has listed Winfrey as the world's only black billionaire in 2004, 2005, and 2006 and as the first black woman billionaire in world history.[7][67] According to Forbes, Winfrey is worth over $2.5 billion, as of September, 2007[68] and has overtaken former Ebay CEO Meg Whitman as the richest self-made woman in America.[69]

In July 2007 TV Guide reported that Winfrey was the highest paid TV entertainer in the United States during the past year. She earned an estimated $260 million during the year. This amount was more than 5 times what had been earned by the person in second place - music executive Simon Cowell, who had earned $45 million.[70] By 2008, her income had increased to $275 million.[71]

Oh yeah, people listen to her too.

Everybody has had a turn at saying something moronic, nobodys perfect.  Even Oprah.  I think sometimes she tries too hard to be the 'average joe' and she just isn't, hence the stupid questions.  :)

You know, (OK, I guess not) that the 'average Joe' has dumb questions.  And that's what O does, is she asks the questions that the people who are watching (millions, as opposed to a few dozen who read posts here, not a minor difference) really want to ask.  And, if you really want people to know (which, in fact I doubt), then they have to have those questions answered - no matter how dumb, how stupid, how obvious they are.  Remember, were talking about people who thought that Bush (who dodged the draft, and his VP who dodged it FIVE TIMES) were somehow more patriotic than Kerry, who actually served in combat, in county).  So, brainpower is not the ruling edict.

But........................

And here is the thing.

What Bush got, and Kerry missed, was an emotional connection.  What O does is make an emotional connection between her people and her audience.  Which, by the way, is not a minor deal.  In fact, its the only deal.  The emotional connection is more important than any intellectual understanding.  People don't need to "know" your problem, they only need to "feel" it in order to be on your side.

And that.

That emotional connection.  That is what you shun.

Too bad.

You missed the real point.

O however does not.  Which is why she is rich, and her detractors, who have far more opportunity than she ever did, are close to worthless.

O can walk up to almost any door in America and be welcomed into that house by the woman who lives there.  Write back when you can pull that off.

Remember, what people felt was that Bush, not Kerry was the patriot.  Even when they "knew" the opposite was really true.

Whoa there girl!  :o  Are you some kind of a celebritywhore??  :D

Nobody's knocking the big O's credentials, but she is not above criticism,is she?  Its great that you follow her career so closely and keep tabs on every dime she makes, but she's still fallible, with or without money and with or without fame.
Ummm, btw, if she came knocking on my door, why would I invite her in?  I don't know her, and I wouldn't do it for any other random person either.  Thats just silly talk.  ::)

There is a Spanish proverb that I am very fond of:

"Finalmente has encontrado la orma de tu zapato"

which basically means:

"You've finally found the mold of your shoe"

Muuuuaaaaahhhh!  >:D  ;)

Katia, I preferred the analysis of the show you posted under editorials!  Thank you so much for all your hard work on the forums!  :)
