Hello darkness, my old friend, I've come with talk with you again. — Paul Simon

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has a website. As a part of that site a perusuer can find this information about Depression. At the very start NIMH, like any good writer, tells you what that particular section is about and defines for the reader what the general terms of discussion will be.

    What Is Depression?

Everyone occasionally feels blue or sad, but these feelings are usually fleeting and pass within a couple of days. When a person has a depressive disorder, it interferes with daily life, normal functioning, and causes pain for both the person with the disorder and those who care about him or her. Depression is a common but serious illness, and most who experience it need treatment to get better.

People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening.

I only skimmed for now, but it looks pretty well written and I can relate to "darkness so deep you cannot see the hand in front of your own face". I had a full year of that before I figured myself out and let it lift a little.

My dad's side of the family has a history of depression and suicide, but hopefully I'll never fall into that trap. My cousin was in a mental hospital when she was my age. My uncle killed himself for no apparent (to us) reason. Another cousin killed himself when he got tired of fulfilling his army service duty.

I hate knowing that it can be so bleak that life stops being worth it, and there's nothing I can do to help any of them.

Great article, I'll be reading it more closely when I have time tonight.

Thank you, Lindsey. I hope you will still find it well-written after you actually read it through. Even if you don't that was a nice compliment. :icon_hug:
