MANILA, Philippines—Jeniffer Cagandahan is now Jeff Cagandahan after the Supreme Court let the 27-year-old Laguna native change her, rather his, name and gender.
In a 13-page decision, the high court second division recognized Cagandahan's intersex condition and said: "Thus, to him should belong the primordial choice of what courses of action to take along the path of his sexual development and maturation."
Cagandahan was born a female in 1981. But as she grew up, her ovarian structure began to contract, her breast failed to develop and had no menstruation. She began producing male hormones.
