Title: von Munchenhausen syndrome
Post by: goingdown on October 03, 2008, 12:17:56 PM
Many years ago a neurologist specialist thought after seeing my papers about this diagnose. I have written about my symptons earlier. Other neurologist said afterwards that he was quit sure in this case. They did not explain the syndrome to me. And wikipedia says it is a factious disorder.?!

Yeah, it sounds like they think you're deliberately acting sick to get pity or attention.  That's Munchausen's in a nutshell.

Why make such a diagnose when the doctor is not even a shrink?

The (apparently) accepted spelling is Munchausen syndrome.

It derives from the fantastic escapades of Baron (Freiherr) von Münchhausen.
How the umlaut and the second 'H' got lost is a mystery.

I have no idea.  The only things I know about Munchausen's were learned from Wikipedia and House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_(TV_series)).

well, they must think you're faking or doing something to yourself to make you sick.

Do you have any idea why they think this?

Sometimes I think it's doctor code for "I can't figure it out so you must be faking it".

I think that's when they diagnose hypochondria.  Munchausen is for when they dislike what you're doing, for some reason.  They certainly shouldn't be throwing that diagnosis around without actually seeing the patient.

I remember that it was some case in the TV-serie. But it was a very different. The patient made herself sick and used even different substances to be sick. It is totally different than my symptons.

Ah, but that's just what you would say if you had Munchausen's.

Do you think that I have Munchenhausen?

Of course not.  I don't know anything about you or your symptoms.  My last post was tongue-in-cheek.

but i thought mostly the syndrome was about people who kill And then lie about you know like the smith case in south carolina Or the anthony case in florida

Could you please explain more specific. So I have killed and then lied and the diagnose means that. I think that you must have understood something wrong.

In that case I would have been sentenced as criminal.

Susan Smith from SC murdered her two sons. I did not know that the case was relating to Munchenhausen syndrome.

There is a link to wikipedia in this thread. I read it again and did not find anything about killing. However Munchenhausen au praxi can lead to causing injuries mainly to children but that is different than normal munchenhausen syndrome that I do not have either.
