Not sure where the best place to post this is.
For the first 2 weeks after every T shot I have and also after I have my Leuprorelin injection (they are spaced out 6 weeks apart) I have severe problems with insomnia and also very vivid dreams which all seem to be centred around my gender dysphoria.
I've never been a good sleeper anyway but at the moment even if I go to bed at 1.30am (usual) I still cannot actually fall asleep until about 4.30 and then I have to be up at 8.30 which, even for me, is not enough sleep. Takes hours to get to sleep but once asleep it takes a bomb to wake me up.
These dreams revolve around situations that worried me like for instance public toilets (i.e. not being able to use urinals), people calling me "she", being "outed" in public and most of the things that worry most TG people BUT they are really surreal, not scary or depressing but multi-coloured, technicolour blockbusters. Like watching a film.
I originally thought the reason I was having this was because of the fact that I was having my jabs and my brain was being over conscious about this "new" and very important thing that was happening to me. The thing is I've been on T over 2 years now and it's not changed. The insomnia is about the same as it ever was (not got any worse or better) but the dreams are getting more and more vivid and even weirder, they even include celebraties now. I've NEVER had dreams that included famous people before.
The dreams are much worse after my Leuprorelin injection more than the T jab, in fact to be honest it's mainly after the Leuprorelin jab (had it last Friday) that it gets particularly bad. I don't know of any other FTMs who are having this injection and when I had my first jab (have only had 2 so far) the nurse told me that she has only given it to men with prostate cancer. Basically it affects the brain and stops it telling your gonads toproduce (in cisgendered males testosterone and in females oestrogen). It's main use is for prostate cancer from what I can find out on the internet as testosterone speeds up the spread of cancer, so even though they may get brittle bone problems they will live longer as it slows down the spread of cancer.
If this is posted in the wrong place can a mod move it for me please.
Any advice or enlightenment on what the h**l is going on here much appreciated.
John
I would have no idea...does your doctor know about this? That is probably where I would start. If you have had a past with insomnia then maybe its something completely unrelated, but is antogonized by your recent shots...
My thoughts,
