I'm starting to get read as male here in the Northeast, which is cool. I'm also starting to notice that random people start talking to me in stores, and that NEVER used to happen. Ever. And if I needed help in a store, it was hard to get the attention of the clerks. Not any more. Last week I had a cool conversation about drain snakes in the plumbing aisle of Home Depot.
Tonight I'm looking for work boots, since my feet have gotten bigger on T. Odd. Anyway, I'm trying on a pair of Hi-Tecs, and this guy comes up to me and tells me that those boots are crap. See? He shows me how the toes of his are all peeling back, and the boots aren't that old. Cheap Chinese crap, yada yada. I thank him and say that it's hard for me to find boots that fit because my feet are small. I'm a 7.5-8 mens depending on the brand (used to be a 6.5 Mens; 8.5 Ladies). He just says, I hear ya, buy what you want, etc. He wanders off, complaining about the selection of boots and why there arent' more. So when he wandered back, I said, did you see the boots over there? This store had a whole selection of boots for construction guys. He looks over, gets all excited, and says, hey thanks! You're the man!!
So there. I'm the man!!
I told my kids they can just tell their friends now: That's my mom. He's the MAN!
Jay
Hey Jay, your feet have gotten bigger in what way? I wear about a 9 in mens boots but they slip a bit and an 8 and half's too small, like somethings just not 'beefy' enough about my feet. Weirdly enough, size 9 sneakers fit perfectly.
They've gotten longer, and maybe just a bit wider.
I used to always wear 7.5-8 shoes. When I was pregnant, that shot up to 8.5-9, then after I lost weight back to an 8 pretty consistently. I bought a brand new pair of sneakers right before I started transition, and I'd say after a month on T they were too tight in the toes. I also had a pair of workboots in the back of my closet that I wore all last winter and they are way too tight to even get my foot in comfortably.
I'm now consistently a 7.5-8 men's, whereas before I was lucky to be a 6-6.5 men's.
Jay, now almost 2.5 months on T
Something to hope for then. I want to be able to wear boots and dress shoes more comfortably.

:D love it
QuoteSo there. I'm the man!!
Its good stuff dude! All good stuff!
QuoteI'm now consistently a 7.5-8 men's, whereas before I was lucky to be a 6-6.5 men's.
Thats wierd dude.. I am nearly 7 months on T and my feet haven't really grown however I am a US 10 or 11! So I have big feet anyway!!!
my feet are so narrow that i hope they beef up on T. my feet are long enoughfor 10.5-11 in american mens shoes, but i always have trouble getting them narrow enough. :(
After T, the biggest change in shoes size for me was in width and bulk. I gained a couple of shoes sizes but the biggest thing for me was that meant I was now in the average male shoe size and in general men's shoes fit better (i.e. I didn't need to over tighten the laces) but as always YMMV. Thinking back, I think I went from a men's 5 to a 7.5 but it depends on the shoes. My work boots are always a 7, while my dress shoes are an 8 and my runners are 7.5. All sizes are Canadian but I have no idea what that means. For me shoes shopping consists of does it fit? Can I afford it? and will it last? If the answers are yes and I need those shoes I buy it. I am also unlikely to buy new shoes until I truly can't wear them anymore (it has been at least 3 years since I bought a pair of shoes) so I am not sure if anything has changed since I last went but my criteria hasn't changed.
Shopping remains an unpleasant chore for me. I have to shop because society says I must wear clothes and if I don't do it people try to do it for me which can be worse however I have aqAt the least my friends say I shouldn't do my own shopping independently because the last time I did I got a pair of sunglasses that made me look like a frog. Oh well I thought the glasses looked good and the sale lady said they complimented my face.
Most guys see an increase in shoes and gloves sizes more then in other areas because of the volume of cartilage in the feet and hands between the joints. The cartilage is also where most if not all growth comes from after T.

Welcome to Guy hood Jay Your the Man.
Yes it does get interesting going to stores after awhile. Hardware stores for me now is where I see the bigest difference. Boy is that a 2 edge sword for me know, to get the condensending treatment, IE what does that girl know. But On the inside I'm happy.
BTW, My dad's feet were 8's so quite respectable size. Now if I could just find that nice danty shoe in womans 11W.
Take care Jay and enjoy the Dudehoodness ;-)

That sure is cool. Congratulations! Don't you love it? It just keeps getting better from here on.

Why not, my feet got smaller on E! I dropped at least two sizes. I went from 11½ down to 9½, but now the size 9½ pumps I bought a year keep slipping off my feet. Talk about Incredible Shrinking Woman. Lily Tomlin eat your heart out.
This is
real.

Pleased to meet you. I'm the Woman.
LOL.. hmm While I wouldn't mind longer feet, I think rather avoid getting much wider LOL... Have trouble enough finding shoes that fit right. I wear a 9 in mens shoes at moment. Though with some designs can wear 8 or 8 and half. But sometimes the shoes are to nerrow even in mens. Plus I have to add arch supports because of issues with the arches of my feet. (Not flatfoot but pretty close)
But yeh is pretty cool :D I love it when someone calls me a young man or sir etc.
hey jay....yes, even an old one like me has to admit...that's pretty "cool". you know, i think my therapist has something there. she says we put out all these subliminal signals...one of them being that we might be pretty "cool" to talk with. that kind of stuff just seems to start appearing out of the blue once it becomes true...i'd bet you are pretty cool to talk to. thanks for the pleasant smile.
Right now, Jay. I am happy for you, Dude.
I know how you are feeling, I get the same kind of thing but in the opposite direction. I am ignored, looked at like I don't know what I am talking about, etc, etc. Just because I am a woman. ;D
Aren't it cool. 8)

It's cool because it says you are a woman! Bad because in reality it really bites how women are treated. Now that I'm on the other side I see it much more clearly everywhere, on TV, movies, etc. Even when the character is a smart, strong woman, it's still there. Totally bites.
I'm half out at work; management knows as does the big boss and all are cool with it. It will probably be a month before they make the announcement and have the training. I'm allowed to tell who I want at the moment, but the pronoun thing won't happen likely until the HR people require it.
Jay
hi jay. there is a woman who is a minister in our greater church who transitioned on the job. once she was asked what she noticed most about everyday life since transition. her answer was..."i keep bumping into people."
something to think about.
That is great news on the job, Jay. Yeah I have noticed the treatment thing too, but I really don't care because at least they are treating me like a woman. :-\ ???
PJ, Funny
Such a good feeling isnt it to hear something validating like that isnt it Jay. And you are "The Man" :)
Strangers never compliment you unless they really mean it. Hugs
