I was out shopping with my daughter and we went to the registers and there were 3 open and one pile of customers. So, my daughter and I went to a register. Well a snippy lady at the register says "Ma'am, we have ONE line for all the registers!!" Mind you, there is no sign, no nothing stating this, and it has never been that way all the other times I've gone into the store. And she Ma'am-ed me. Indeed!! >:-) GRR.
Next stop was a bead shop. My daughter took her time and finally found the necklace, so we go to pay. I hand over my brand spankin' new credit card. "Can I see some ID?" Sure. And I hand over my ID. ;D So, you didn't think I was Jay. But I AM!!! Ha!
Anyway, now I have to go back to the first store to exchange something. I hate when you grab something behind the first (different color) but the size isn't the same. And maybe I'll get that lady at the register who called me ma'am and set her straight.
Jay
A simple "Sorry SIR", would put her in her place..
Then again, as much as it gets under your skin, a lot of people view trans guys as butch dykes if they're readable and aren't on T, or haven't gotten a lot of effects from it yet. So it could of just been an honest mistake.
I get sir'd a good 90% of the time, the other 10% is when someone just doesn't use a pronoun refering to me. Like when you're in like, and the cashier is "Good afternoon Sir/Ma'am to everyone in line, you come about..and they just say "Good afternoon", like they're not sure what to say..which is better than just blurting something out.
