Title: Doesn't it seem like most M2F's chose a name that starts with "K"?
Post by: Kristen on October 25, 2008, 04:03:47 AM
This was my personal observation before I ever joined this forum and seems to be the case here still.

It just seems that a larger proportion of males-to-females choose these types of names.

I personally chose Kristen because it is a variation of my "Christian" male name.
Does this mean a lot of "Christ" males choose "K---" names as females?

What is it about "K"?

Special K? Hmm... I think I will have a bowl.

*shrug* My name choose me.
That said, I personally think "K" names are among the best but, *shrug* I am partial obviously.

Interesting... I noticed this trend a few years ago. My original name that I chose also started with a K but it just didn't fit. I chose it because of a girl I went to school with as a child. She had that same name and she was pretty and popular and I so wanted to be like her. But like I said it just didn't fit.

My name that I chose in the end I got from playing World of Warcraft  It was one that the computer generated and I just loved it. SO I took it.

A lot of K first names spring from, or are variations of a few names that mean the same thing, "Pure" for example.

http://www.20000-names.com/female_k_names.htm (http://www.20000-names.com/female_k_names.htm)

According to that site, Kristen, your name is the German form of the name 'Christine', meaning "Follower of Christ". :)

And yours, Kimberly, is the feminine variant of the English unisex name 'Kimberley', which means "King's City Meadow".

Oh , after reading about my name I got a feeling I should change it. I had misinterpreted my name. However I am not going to do it.

Hmmm...

Although the root etymology of my name is Cassandra.  It hardly means pure, though.  It means the one who always has dire predictions.  From the Greek of unheeded prophetess.  You may have heard the statment "Don't be such a Cassandra!"  But while that is my name on this and other lists, it simply means that Sandra or Sandy is usually already taken.  My legal name is Sandra.

And interesting observation, though.

Hmm... mine doesn't seem to exist or have a meaning unless split into two parts.

Leia = "Child Of Heaven"
Andra = "Warrior"

Lol, a heavenly warrior child... I like that. ;D

Looking through those 'K' names... Klytaimnestra... lol, now there's a name to never attempt after a visit to the dentist. :o

On the site I posted, it has the following listing:

QuoteCASSANDRA: "She who entangles men." Latin form of Greek myth name Kassandra, King Priam's daughter to whom Apollo gave the gift of foresight then later caused her prophecies to be ignored because she refused his advances.

hmmm...when i first ventured out into the tg arena i was taken by how many bri's and brianna's there were. i've always liked the k though, i don't know why.  i don't know where my name came from originally, but as it relates directly to me it came from a cat that i named for it's monetary value...the jane was added for emphasis when the little monster wouldn't react to just "penny"

susan was my choice of names.  when i was little that was my name, i think somehow i saw it as the feminine for my given name, steven.  when it came time for the change i was informed by my all knowing wife that in fact i was not a susan, i was a pennyjane.  well, it ain't susan but it beats steven all to heck!

I chose this one because it's close enough to my male name that no one will have problem remembering it.  Mine (obviously) doesn't begin with a K.

I haven't noticed this trend either, though I'm apparently part of it. The name I've chosen is Katrina (as seen in my SN). The only similarity it has with my given first name (which I've never gone by anyway) is that it's German.

It is interesting that both my old male name and my new name mean the same thing.  "God is gracious"

And I did not plan that at all.

That is interesting. The first name I chose was Kylie and I loved it. However, my young daughter's name starts with a K so my GT said it would be a better idea to choose another name. Also, Kylie really is a little cutesy for an older woman like me. She suggested that I choose a name that starts with the same letter as my wrong name G. So I looked and tried Gwen. But that didn't work for me and I really hated it and all the other G names are icky. (to me, no offense)

So back to the drawing board and after much thought it came down to Kristin or Christine. Finally I chose Christine as it seems sophisticated to me and fits well with my last name. Also, I can go by CC if I wish.

So the power of K had me for awhile.

Huh, that's something I never thought about. Only one other woman in my family has a name starting with a K sound, and that's my Grandma, Carmoncita. The other female names in my family that I can think of are Tammey (mom), Melody (sister), Stacey (cousin), and Hailey (niece). Almost makes me feel like I should just go by the middle name I've chosen, Ashley, in order to fit in with all the -y endings. *giggles*

Of course, there is my nephew, Ashton; but I already had Asher as my middle name and the name I've always gone by in boy mode, so I can't say that similarity concerns me at all.

Hi Leiandra, My full real name is Cynthia; from Greek mythology meaning Kynthia meaning from Mount Kynthos, referring to the birth place of Artemis the Goddess of the moon.

I adopted my name from a friend who I became quite close to, I met her about twenty years ago just when I was just starting out working as a Social Worker.

I picked Leanne for my middle name as a memento of my french heritage; It is a variant of Liana, meaning Youthful

Leiandra:  heavenly warrior child, that is beautiful, maybe we are sisters of the stars. ;)

I originally came out as Jay, which is my first initial.  Since then on many trans forums there are lots of ftms with the name of Jay.  Online moniker?  Maybe.  Real name?  Maybe.

My legal name starts with a J and I go by my full name in real life.  On line I'm Jay.

I hadn't noticed the K thing with the ladies.

I was originally going to spell Ashley as Achlie to tie into my French heritage (Katrina ties into my German heritage, though that isn't why I chose that name lol), but too many people keep thinking it's pronounced "Acklee" instead of "Ashley," so I decided to keep it simple and go with Ashley.

On that note, I wonder if my Japanese professor has noticed yet that I'm putting アシリー(ashirii) on my schoolwork instead of アシェル(asheru) yet. >.> heehee

I wavered back and forth on my chosen name as to which would be first and middle name. It ended up being Wendy Catherine simply because Wendy is easier to write and faster. Catherine has always been been with me since my Mother relayed that it was the name she would have given me had fate not intervened. I was seven years old at the time when I ask her about it.  I note that Catherine is a variant of Katherine, again the "K" connection.  ::)
