On Election Day the people of California passed Propositions 2 and 8. Prop 2 provides protections for farm animals and passed by a landslide 63% to 37%. Proposition 8 which eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry, passed by a margin of 52.5% to 47.5%. It is a sad day when the people of California decide to protect farm animals with the one hand and with the other take away protections for their neighbors, colleagues, friends and families. But, I have faith in the people of my state. I have faith that they will come to see the beauty of equality.
It's the Thursday evening after California voted overwhelmingly to make Barack Obama our new president. As the echo's of "Yes We Can" resonate throughout the days and months ahead, let's understand the gains we've made in a very short period of time and gather ourselves for the next battle to winning full equality for all.
