Hello!
Ok, heres my shoe dilema...I wear a 12 wide mens shoe...
The last girl shoes I had were 14 and fit perfectly, so I order some high heel stripper shoes off ebay that were 14...they didnt fit. ???
They were about 3 sizes too small...there are no places near me (NE Ohio) that I know of to find shoes, Ive been to Reyers...but they dont have anything. (thats where I got my nice fitting ones...which I "purged", BTW ::))
So now Im back to looking at ebay or the web...but scared of getting non fitters...anyone have any luck with a certain seller or even a brand that you know we can trust to get the right size?
Thanks! :)
Technically a men's 12 should make you a 13-1/2 in women's.
On the other hand, they usually start going by whole sizes when they get that big.
I've heard good things said about http://www.zappos.com/
Women's shoe sizes aren't reliable at all! - they tend to vary a lot from shop to shop and brand to brand and style to style.
If you can't try them on beforehand, then all you can rely on is luck as to whether or not they'll fit.
Thanks! I feel much better now....the stripper shoes were really a bad deal....120 dollars and they looked like a kid made them...Ill just go with 14.
;D

It's a good idea to order a size larger than you are, for some wierd reason a lot of them actually say to do this anyway (which completely defeats the whole purpose of labelling them that size in the first place if you ask me.) At the end of the day, you can live with shoes that are a little too big, but there's nothing you can do if they are too small.
Best to play it safe.

Sure you can live with boots a size big, but shoes you're just likely to "fall out" of them unless they're strappy and you can secure them well.
Loose slingbacks or mules are lethal !
Falling off even modest 2 - 3 inch heels is going to create a laugh for those around you, but its no fun even if all you need to do is hobble to the car ... ::) ...
Honestly I would never buy shoes or boots without trying them on and spending least 10 minutes walking round the store in them ... difficult I know for a CD ... :( ... but what's with "bravery" these days if it saves you wasting $120 ?
So plan on lots of mail order returns and wasted postage.
P.S. I'm a US woman's size 8 - 9 (UK 6 - 7) so I can feel
SMUG !
Here most shoe stores stock up to a US woman's 10 - 12 ... with really limited stock above 10 (UK 8 ) ... can't think where you'd go for 14 ?

Oh I know....that was back in the "early" days....
You can buy shoe stretchers which work well on leather shoes and boots (stitching is the problem !) ... and sprays that soften the leather.
Hairdryer heat with "stretchers" and steam work a treat.
And remember most leather boots / shoes also stretch with wear ...
Just that I scuff my heels & toes so habitually that I've never had a favourite pair of well used boots (typ $400 for me) last more than a winter + spring ... things we do and money we spend for "fashion" !

I have been told that when the heel is 4 inch or higher to go up at least 1 size. That has worked for me really well. I run into small shoes all the time and it frustrating. The fact that you need a wide makes things much more difficult. I think Zappos has free returns? You can order a couple sizes and keep the ones that fit? Good luck!!!
I went back to reyers today...no good. They had 1 pair of cute flats in 14W...too small. These were in the "outlet" section.
Its funny and maybe somewhat in my head, but, this place is like a car dealership...salespeople EVERYWHERE.....asking the whole way in "do you folks need some help?"
Of course I said no to a couple and said I was just looking....but as soon as any of them see you looking at size 14 female shoes...they stay away and dont ask anymore...
I finally went to a skinny black man that looked like Drew Carey (honestly) and asked about regular stock and how large they go....he said 12 only.
I should have never purged my last ones!
Nor should I have purged the 25 trash bags of clothes I had over the years ???
What kind and size of shoes are you looking for maybe one of use might have a pair that would work for you Just a thought

Awww, thank you...that is a awesome thought.
I guess a flat or short pump, black, or an open toe something...Sort of a go with anything shoe, really. Im not too dressy....more cute/casual.
Id say 14m or 14 w...
Id be willing to paypal or at least shipping if someone wants to be generous with hand me downs....
Heres some examples I found on web:

That gives me another idea, I have some clothes that are too small...maybe a swap?
Any one interested...let me know...thanks for the idea! :D
:) ...back
zappos.com is a good option. You can order several pair and keep what you like and return the rest, with free shipping in both directions.
I've found that male size + 1 1/2 works well most of the time, except for very pointy toe shoes.
Anne
Thanks AnneW, thats probably my next move...a girl cant go out without shoes!
The shoes changes the entire clothing you are wearing...
Hi Rita,
I know what you mean. I'm really tall, 6'5" in my bare feet, and have been cursed with clodhoppers for feet, men's size 14/15, so I'm pretty much limited to buying on-line, as there are no local stores that carry shoes in my size/s. I've found that large-sized women's shoes vary widely in sizing, as I have women's shoes in sizes 15, 16 and 17 that fit me well. It seems like when you get into the really large sizes, there's usually less difference between men's and women's sizes. I suspect that your size 14's that didn't fit were mislabeled and were not really 14's, as you should have been able to fit into a 14 with no problem, even if it was a bit tight.
Unfortunately though, trial-and-error when buying shoes is a necessary evil that we bigfeet have to put up with.
On the bright side, there are quite a few on-line stores that carry shoes in our sizes now, WAY better than when I was starting out back in the 1970's when the largest women's shoes that weren't custom-made were 14's, and those were EXPENSIVE.
I've got a page on my personal web site with links to sites that carry women's larger-sized shoes, all go to at least size 14, so maybe this will be of value. The URL is http://community-2.webtv.net/CAW_1976/Largesizewomensshoe/ (http://community-2.webtv.net/CAW_1976/Largesizewomensshoe/)

I found this and bought from them...
shoebuy.com
they go up to 15/16 in pretty shoes and they offer free shipping to you and for returns....
Plus they were cheaper than ebay and I got a 10 dollar 25% coupon just by looking on the web.
I havent got them yet, so well see.
...bummin... :-\
well I got my shoes today...and they are too small. They are Pleaser brand and they are 15's!!!!
I wear a 12w in mens and these are way too narrow. They are actually too long...but very narrow. I can ship back for free...but I doubt the 16 will work either.
...trapped inside till I get some girl shoes!....
Strike 2!
I bought another pair of ebay shoes...these actually fit
BUT
they may as well be made of bacon...they are 5 inch pumps and basically fold over with any sideways motion...I knew the big heel was a bad deal...but I got these super cheap...the seller measured them for me and I offered him basically nothing for them and he said ok...
they look good in pics, though!
still on the hunt for somewhat sensible shoes.
If anyone else is looking...go to payless shoes site...they have a adobe downloadable and printable shoe sizer...its very cool AND they have shoes up to 13 wide. Linkies below

They also let you return to any store for credit if they dont work.

Might want to look at the Maryland Square Shoes site also, some nice stuff there.
aaw, thank you...I hadnt seen them yet...
they do have some nice stuff :)
Yeah, real shoes designed (as much as women's shoes ever are) to walk in.
