Title: Stupid question
Post by: sneakersjay on November 21, 2008, 07:19:50 AM
Should I go to work with facial hair?

I've been shaving since April.  A few weeks ago I stopped shaving to see what would grow in.  I have a fair amount of hair on my chin and on one side of my neck/jawline.  I also have a sparse moustache coming in.

So now I haven't shaved in nearly a week.  I've been called sir every where I went this week.  Management is supposed to out me very soon, though I plan on coming out to the people I work with tonight (almost did last week).

I go to work at 6pm.  Should I leave my facial hair alone, even though it's a bit spotty?  Or should I shave??  I really, REALLY want to grow my facial hair in.

The way I see it, if you're going to tell the people you work with tonight then leaving your facial hair will reinforce that to them, and maybe make you feel a little more confident in yourself.

The question is, what do you want to do? I mean, it has no effect on your ability to do your job, and I doubt it's against your company's dress code to have facial hair... so if you want to leave it as it is, I'm not sure there's a problem with it. :)

Sure, play with it now that you have it :)

At my last psychiatrist appointment, to get various letters of approval, the psych said "I'll see you next with a goatee". I said "nah, I'm too old to be playing around". So guess what the first thing I grew as soon as I could was....

Only thing is if it is patchy, it'll make you look younger. If you can grow one thing fairly solidly that helps. But for having fun, what the hell.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Judging from the photo you posted, it's not coming in evenly enough to not look weird, so i'd abstain.  But if you're set on it, there's probably very little chance that someone would actually notice it.

Jay, I only shave every two weeks in in bright light it looks dark but in normal light it looks normal. I shave every two weeks. As I like to grow it out a bit and I have to do it every two weeks as I have bad spots! As it is!

I would shave it dude until it comes though properly. But Im jealous as mine isn't that dark as yet!

The pic isn't that great and you can't see half of what is actually there.  But yeah.

All employees I'm sure are required to look clean. Not shaving, no matter who you are, is probably a very unprofessional way to present yourself.

Yeah. One thing I'll never miss with being a male is slicing my poor face to pieces every morning before presenting myself to the world...
Beards are cool if you are REALLY neat with them, but sparse facial hair wont suit someone who's working well.

I caved and shaved.

I'll let it grow out again over the few weeks I'll be out having my surgery, and see if anything comes in any better.

The thing I worry about is my father has spots where he can't grow hair on his chin.  He's a bioguy of course but some guys end up like that I guess.  I'm hoping I don't lol
