Title: Fitness and me
Post by: Susan on July 06, 2005, 02:24:06 AM
I have taken to walking having a sudden determination to lose the weight I added over the years due to the combinations of quitting smoking and starting hormones in the same month. Back then I didn't weigh myself as I had been the same weight for years and didn't notice the encroaching pounds.

This is the route I walked the last time I walked. I will update it whenver I get back from walking. I use that to measure the distance I covered. That route was 3.79 miles give or take .10 mile

To avoid the heat I have been walking in the early hours of the morning. As I am living as a woman full time in all but a legal name I vary my route to prevent someone from laying in wait for me. I stick to mostly heavily trafficed roads and avoid areas which might have a lot of cover for someone to jump out of.  Tonight though I think someone tried to figure out if i was a prostitute or not. The guy pulled up in front of me stopped to the my left side with his passenger window down. I of course zig right and look at the police car which was driving away down the road a bit. The guy turns on the cross road just in front of me. I zig left back on my original course and keep walking. He pulls up beside me and I already have my cellphone already in my hand with 911 punched in and he asked "Do you know of any clubs" I am sure that the proper answer if I was doing what he thought I was would have been "Sure! Need a date?". You just gotta love the kind of education you can get from the Cops TV show. Needless to say I simply said "No sorry", and kept walking. The guy drove off and I didn't see him again. I of course was ecstatic about that fact :)

I was dressed conservatively. I was wearing a pair of white and blue sneakers, blue jeans, A purple long sleeved shirt with a white inset at the neck with red and green  flowers (looks like I am wearing layers but it's not), my hair up in a ponytail, carrying a black cloth purse on my shoulder. So please don't think I dress in a way that encourages men to think that I am out there with the intent to sell my body.

Hello Susan,
I'm not sure if blogs are mean't to be replied to, if not I'm sorry for this and please delete it.  However, you have great survival instincts.  The precautions you take when out and about, make a lot of sence.  I passed the same information, along with some other points, to a friend who had a nasty run in with some teens who were harrasing her while walking home.  We should always be aware of our suroundings and how to protect ourselves.  I'll start a new topic on this... :)

Congrats on starting a new routine.  Doing something different to improve oneself, is always rewarding, and it makes you feel so good when you suceed.  It's that suceeding part that can trip you up.  So keep at what you're doing, especially sice you're doing it for yourself.

Quite inspirational...I need to lose some myself (at least 70 pounds, ouch!), & seeing the map somehow awakens my motivation....keep it up...
