Title: Should I keep my thing???
Post by: Audrey on November 25, 2008, 01:22:55 AM
So i am indecisive.  I have a 73 VW thing in really excellent shape.  Its a blast to drive and gets tons of attention.  But lately I have seriously been considering selling it.  Its been sitting for the last three years undriven in a garage.  I still have two and half years left of school and even when I graduate Iwill still have to find a place to put it and the money to restore it won't really be available for a few years after that as I have student loans to pay off.  Also selling it will help with funds to get rid of my other thing. lol

But on the other hand I have found a buyer who is a thing enthusiast (sp) who participates in ralleys and other events who knows how to work on them and would really take good care of it and enjoy it.  But its so hard letting it go I don't know what to do.

It's a material item you can replace later.

As much as I hate to say it, I say sell. You will get what you need, and so will it.

so true.  The more I think about it its the emotional baggage associated with it thats making me have doubts about getting rid of it.  but its baggage that needs to be left behind.  so the decision is made.

Don't sell it! It's so classic (Classic OLD XD) that it has entrensic value! I mean, sure you'll get money you NEED, but if you keep it...maybe you might jsut come to appreciate the dicision to keep it. You know about "buyer's remorse"? Well, it works both ways.

I'm pretty poor, and I just got outta highschool>into college, and I NEED money. But there's no way i would sell something like that. But, that's just me...

_Edit_
Turns out I'm too late. Decision was made.  :D

Exactly my view.

Especially if you cant do nothing with it and its going to cost you money for just sitting there.

Sell your "thing" and get rid of your other "thing" ;)

Thing One or Thing Two....that is the question.

For questions like this I usually turn to one of my heroes, Dr. Seuss.  Thing One and Thing Two are some of his best characters.  Here is one of their classic lines:

"Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try!"

I have no idea exactly what this has to do with your decision to sell or not.   ;D

But IMHO, keep it a little while longer and see if you still enjoy having it.  If not, then think low and think high and decide if you want to sell it.

ME three.

However, I'm a big fan of things as well.  I'd say hold onto what you can hold onto, those things rock.

I get a picture of Rommel scoping the desert with his binoculars :) I'd love to have a car like that, or the 1940s Kubelwagen it's based on.

At this point, I'd like to take a moment to just point out to our studio audience and you, the viewer at home, that we are in fact, a pair of uber-geeks. Or at least, I am. ;D

It looks like a piece of junk. I say sell it.

Actually the reason I would suggest selling it is because the thing deserves better than just sitting in a garage. It needs love and it needs to be used. Sounds like it would be going to a good home. Perhaps you can negotiate visitation rights or something.

Got me with the title too. That's a beautiful thing you have there Audrey and they are so classic, but if you need the money, other cool stuff will come along in the future.

Dennis is a fan of Audrey's thing.

I'm faced with a similar situation with an old classic car that is in pretty decent shape. Anyway, we never drive it and it is sitting and rotting. I'm going to put it up for sale this weekend. I did the same for my motorcycle for the same reason. It's hard to let go, but on the other hand it's just a car.

I think you should have your "thing" turned inside out

or maybe invest in a vulvo
