Title: top surgery -- need for pain medication?
Post by: Benjamin on December 03, 2008, 11:23:01 AM
Top surgery scheduled for January 9.

I'm curious if any of you did NOT need heavy duty pain meds afterward.  Like, what are the odds of getting by on tylenol or ibuprofen?

I'm super sensitive to drugs and have heard of severe vomiting associated with Percocet.

I can't answer that specifically for you as I haven't had top surgery...

I will say that Tylenol 3 is enough to sedate me and let me sleep for hours.

I didn't need much in the way of pain medication. I think you could get by with T3's or something less than prescription meds.

I only took one hit from the morphine pump after surgery.  And that was mostly cuz I was curious about it.

Three days after surgery, Mom and I were up visiting the Grand Canyon.  My surgery took place in Phoenix.

I did Tylenol w/ codine. I think I was in more pain from how tight the binder was and it was cramping my muscles in my back. I thought I wasn't going to need any until the I woke up in the middle of the night and was like OMG where is that pain med?

I took three percocet-

1 immediately after i got home from surgery, figuring i'd be in pain once the wooziness wore off

1 before drain removal

1 before suture removal

I probably didn't need any of them.  I took extra strength motrin to keep the swelling down.
