The San Francisco Boys Chorus will stir up holiday spirit in the rotunda of San Francisco City Hall on Tuesday before the annual Tree of Hope lighting ceremony and party, a gay and merry event that's free to the public. The boys get going at 5:30 p.m., followed at 6 by comments from Mayor Gavin Newsom and then the lighting of the tree. It will be adorned with thousands of origami cranes inscribed with people's wishes for the future of the world, courtesy of the Rainbow World Fund, a philanthropic organization in the LGBT community.

Among others, Dame Edna, the hilarious drag character played by Barry Humphries, will say a word or two, and the transsexual singer Veronica Klaus will perform.
