Title: The Chicago Machine
Post by: lisagurl on December 09, 2008, 11:21:56 AM
Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois was arrested and charged with corruption, including an allegation that he conspired to profit from appointing a senator to succeed Barack Obama.

A political type arrested in Chicago?  For corruption?  Oh, I'm so shocked.  At least he was just out trying to make a buck in hard times, as opposed to the New York Gov who was just using bucks to keep himself hard.  Not sure which is worse - though sex scandals are much more fun to read about.

He wanted to control what the Tribune said about him. He would withhold bailout money from the newspaper unless some reporters that he did not like were fired.  So much for the freedom of the press.

Yeah, but as it turns out - and many have found it out the hard way before - you mess with the best when you want to take on the Trib, it has its own power base.  Look at who's wearing the free bracelets.  Besides, they call it "Crook County" for a reason.

Another Illinois governor indicted?  Ho-hum.  It was in the back pages of the newspapers here.

Actually, I'm waiting for that clown that filed the suit with the Supreme Court about Obama's birthright to file another suit saying that Pres-elect Obama can't serve because his seat was being power brokered by the soon-to-be-ex-gov.

Hey, everyone!  The election has happened.  Silly season is OVER!  Get a grip.

The fun has just begun. The LA Representative has been replaced because of the cold cash. As Bush hands out permission for medical people the right to not service anyone for any reason based on their personal beliefs.

So the people of Illinois will have now only one senator, Durbin. There are however skilled and non-corrupt democrats that could be nominated to fill Obama's seat.

Hey, most of politics is just a branch of the entertainment industry anymore, and this stuff is great.  Did you read the counts they have against him?  He was getting bucks from everyone.  Hell, I'm amazed he didn't make money off every damn fee in the state.  In the Graft and Corruption Hall of Fame, this guy is going to be right there with Boss Tweed.

The Senate ain't gonna do anything till Jan 21, so what's the rush?  I favor the female vet, but I'm not from there, and I don't know her record.  Plus, you do need to pick someone who can win the next election.  But don't let this guy pick 'em.

P.S.  He is going to be the forth governor of that state to go to jail as a way of finishing out their term.  Chicago gets a bad rap, they at least hide it better then they do in Springfield.

Even Jessie Jackson Jr. was trying to buy the seat. Should we pray for him? ::)

Liberals do not want to see this seat going to conservative, pro-life rep. Roskam R-IL. So the democrat pick must be done carefully.

Seems to me, both of late, and pretty much historically also, 'careful' is not a word that is often applied to political stuff in the Land of Lincoln.
