I'm scheduled for top surgery on Jan. 9, but my surgeon might also have an opening on Dec. 29 instead. Would love the earlier date! But I'm concerned about my New Years Eve plans. (I have an important obligation I absolutely can't back out of.) I'd be away from home for around 10 hours, with no place to lie down, if needed. Any thoughts about this? I think my safest bet would be to wait to have the surgery in Jan. Then again, I might be over-estimating how much time it'll take to be back on my feet?
Sounds like too much, imo. Depending on what you're doing for that 10 hours, but I know I was needing naps after activity that soon after surgery.

Dennis,
Yeah, unfortunately, I agree with you. A nurse I know was telling me not to worry, as long as I'm sitting, it'd be fine. But common sense wins out on this one!

How long do you have to wait until you can do stuff like go out dancing and
driving and shopping.. stuff in general?
It all depends on how you feel. I was up and around and at a concert 26 hours after surgery, spent the next few days at museums and the like. A buddy of mine had the same surgeon a couple of months before and he spent three weeks in a recliner with his xbox.
Different strokes.
Benjamin, wait and see how you feel. If you MUST be at this New Year's bash, take the later date.
I'm 5 days out and not up for much; today I got the drains out and feel a heck of a lot better. I'm up for more now.
I took a lot of nap up until today, fwiw.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate your imput. The docs office called yesterday and offered me the Dec. 29 slot. I turned it down -- which was the sane thing to do. It was hard coughing up the words, "No, thankyou," though. ;) Ah, well... Jan. 9 isn't that far off, either.
