I feel sorry for this child. How could this Pennsylvania couple name their child after Hitler and think there was not going to be serious problems down the road?
The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child's full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance. Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are upset not only with the decision made by the Greenwich ShopRite, but with an outpouring of angry Internet postings in response to a local newspaper article over the weekend on their flare-up over frosting.
i read about that. Have to say it made me smile is a grim way. Isn't the other child called 'Aryan Pride' and another one called 'Himmel'
I was so mad about this when I read this. First of all, for the parents to claim they're not at all racist or anti-Semitic is absurd- why would they choose to name all their children names that have that kind of history, and willfully remain ignorant of the effect that would have on others? How stupid do you have to be to not be aware of how it could be offensive? And second of all, any parent who would do that to their kid is in my opinion disgusting. Those kids are going to have so many issues as adults, because of what other people will treat them as and because everyone will think they're lying or trying to be insulting when all they're doing is giving their name. If they REALLY just 'liked the name,' they could've named the kid Adolf without the Hitler attached, and they wouldn't have named their other kids "Aryan Nation" and the name of another high-up Nazi leader.
This entire thing just riles me so much.
They can say whatever they want to say, but naming your kid Adolf Hitler (like Adolph or Hitler alone wouldn't have cut it) is pretty much a way to get them to hate you big time, assuming they are not born with your IQ.
There was something in the news in my country where a couple called their kid "Talula does the hula in hawaii" or some such. A judge ordered the kid be put into the care of child welfare services. Some people are just completely mental.
We have a really bad record for child abuse in my country :'(.

It's certainly been in the media a lot lately; like the whole Nia Glassie thing :-\
It's all rather grim.
parents never think about what they are naming their kids now a days. it's like the hippies were, except now people are being named after facist leaders and cleaning supplies.
that said, they have a right to name him whatever they want, and at the same time the sake store has the right to refuse.
to quote maude flanders (or maybe it was the rev's wife?)
"won't someone think of the children!!"
~beth
This is such B.S.
Not racist? in their own minds maybe, they asked for swastika cakes before that.
It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together and see they are trying to turn the whole thing around on society.
One kid, okay, maybe. two kids, several swastika cakes. No, sorry, I don't buy it.
Even if it were true that they are not racist, I'm sorry but using your kid in this way to make a statement is worse.
Wow, those parents are epic failures.

It angered me to. I completely agree with what you have written!
Thank god you can change your name. As I am sure he will later on in life!
i hope they have to go to court and are court ordered to change all their kids' names!!! anymore i know it's hard to come up with something original, but this is insanely wrong...period.
Cant change their names because of law, right?
Also, that kid is gonna have serious problems in school, then his job, then his kids for have hitler as a dad when they are in school, then their kids for being related to hitler.
Think about it
This is why couples should be made to attend parenting classes and psych evaluations before they get issued with a license to have kids.
~Simone.
They might as well just give their kid a bunch of T-shirts that say "Kick Me" on the back.
That kid will need to be prepared for high school. Better start training him early. Wow, and I thought my nihilist friend named "Jesus" had a hard time. I can't even imagine what's in store for this poor kid...
Jesus is a pretty popular name in Hispanic Culture, so I always find it funny when Jesus is driving my bus, or getting me my fish tacos.

We need to resurrect Johnny Cash. This is the kind of thing he would just nail in a song.
Without Johnny, the world is just not what it used to be.
In a way, this hitler thing is an interesting social experiment. Though not intended to be one.
The kid isn't that Adolph Hitler, but people freak out about it. What if this kid is actually the return of christ? He gets saddled with that name and has to struggle with how people perceive him. He has tiny brained parents and has to learn to rise above their tawdry level in life. And so on. Then one day, everyone is saying "Adolph Hitler Campbell is my savior".
Far fetched? Probably.
If I was a filthy NAZI white supremacist, my plan would be to soften the image and bring more suckers into the fold.
Oh, and I was thinking that the kid won't be going to school. These kind of people are probably home schoolers.
I once knew a little boy and girl, whose parents had named them Eunuch and Cannabis. The father said that he named the boy Eunuch because he heard the word one day, and thought it was interesting. One can only guess how the girl got the name Cannabis.
:icon_no:
I think, no matter what age we live in, there will always be stupid people giving their kids stupid names.
I bet 'rocket' is a good name.
and maybe "Industrial Savage"
or "Solution"
what about the name "that strange man"?
Then people would say "My children are staying at That Strange Man's house tonight".
or "I loaned my car to That Strange Man".
This is reminiscent of the couple in New Zealand who named their child 'Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii'.

*shrugs*
There should be some form of idiot test before people are allowed to breed.
Imagine the humiliation of failing the breeding exam.
Ahh, but imagine the relief the rest of us would feel. My favorite all time Dan Savage line was "If there is a god in heaven both you and your idiot boyfriend are sterile."
I swear to god, I am so close to inventing a handheld sterilizing device that works from up to 100 yards.

I smell Nobel Peace Prize in your future.

I once knew of a couple, unmarried if it matters, who where both mentally disabled. They could not even complete basic hygiene care. They would have a baby, the State would take the baby away, and they would get pregnant again. This happened about 4 times. I overheard the woman talking one day and she made the comment, "I'm going to keep having babies until they let me keep one."
They have also right for children (the mentally disabled family, however the parents who give their child names as Adolf Hitler lose that right in my mind) . More than I have as transwoman or lesbian women have or gays have. We should be a little more open minded. They are totally innocent for their disability.
Yeah, we don't really want to go back to the times when they forcibly sterilized the mentally disabled.
Adrian
I know a lot of learning disabled people (strangely enough, I'm not using hyperbole). Pretty much none of them are interested in having a baby. They are all growing old and childless like me.
It must be unusual for them to go so far as to have children.
Though I could be wrong.
I wouldn't necessarily use my device on them for that one reason. They would need to show themselves as unfit parent material to me first.
Maybe I should shut up
They are totally innocent for their disability.
Perhaps, but they are also unable to be responsible for their responsibilities, which is where the problem lies. And, I don't think that people have a 'right' to procreate. Not anymore.
