VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict said on Monday that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behavior was just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.
"(The Church) should also protect man from the destruction of himself. A sort of ecology of man is needed," the pontiff said in a holiday address to the Curia, the Vatican's central administration.
"The tropical forests do deserve our protection. But man, as a creature, does not deserve any less."
The Catholic Church teaches that while homosexuality is not sinful, homosexual acts are. It opposes gay marriage and, in October, a leading Vatican official called homosexuality "a deviation, an irregularity, a wound."
Pontification of the highest order. ::)
Why does anyone care what this old guy thinks anyway? Like Joe Stalin said "The Pope? How many divisions does he have?" Tax the churches, tax the land held by the churches. Tax the businesses run by the churches. Then lets hear him talk about what really bothers him. Bet its not gays.
Here's a old white guy who probably doesn't know the first thing about biology, anthropology, psychology, or ethics (yes!) but he feels it's OK to spout off about all of them - just like every other major Western religious leader. I'm so tired of organized religion getting a free ride. When are people going to say, "Enough! We want proof!"
I've long since given up any hope of proof, and would just settle for their taxes, like any other business.
I just thought of something... if gays are like the rainforest, then who are the people destroying us? >:-)
