Title: Workout binders?
Post by: Luc on December 28, 2008, 11:31:06 PM
Well, I'm in dire need of some getting in shape, and since there's a good, free fitness center in my neighborhood, I figured I might get with it already. However, my binder has already injured my shoulder quite possibly beyond non-surgical repair, so the last thing I want to do is work out in it. Because the fitness center is for the entire neighborhood, there are always people there, so I have no option of going without a binder... unless I want to be the weird bearded lady or the guy with big boobs. Anyone have an idea of a good binder for working out, or perhaps something makeshift that won't injure me or restrict breathing?

I would recommend a really good sports bra and a really baggy shirt

I can't imagine working out in a binder, I start to get chest pains just going for a long walk in mine.

I got a very light-duty binder off of ebay from a seller who specializes in gynecomastia compressions shirts.  It's not strong enough to make me really flat (I'm pretty big, unfortunately) but it at least compresses them a bit, and keeps me from getting that annoying "boob snag".  You know, when you lift your arms up over your head, and part of your shirt catches under the freak bags, so you have to pull it loose.  ::)  I combine that with a high-impact sports bra and a couple of layered t-shirts, and have had O.K. results.  If I get a chance I'll post pictures in the binder review thread.

For that matter, a sports compression shirt  under a t-shirt might work, as well.  They have them at Walmart for about $10.  Might be worth a trip to the dressing rooms to see how well it does for you.  Or maybe cut the sleeves off a hoodie, so you can have something that hides your figure better, without completely roasting you?  Might start a new trend.  ;)

You could try Underarmour shirts, just to keep everything together, not really sure how well it binds though. They're really tight so, if you're uncomfortable with the feeling, it might not be for you.

The one I use isn't made specifically for chest binding, but it works just the same. It's an abdominal binder that you could find in any medical supply store. Nothing goes over the shoulder, just some velcro around the chest. I go to work in it for 8 hours on end (I've got a fairly physically demanding job) and it's never been a problem.

Randy your's sounds alot like mine. It's made from a back brace you can get at riteaid.

It also doesn't go over the shoulders-

I started use sports compression shirts when boxing. They work well for me, and I've not experienced any miserable breathing problems, but then again, I'm small chested, so it may not work as well.
