Title: hiding laser
Post by: yabby on January 04, 2009, 01:08:34 PM

many of us have laser hair removal one day or the other, after laser your face change and look more feminine and people start making remarks that you look different.

for some reason you might not want to tell people or work colleague that you had laser hair removal, what wold you tell them if they make the remark that you look different?

Tell them that you bought a new electric razor?  ???
Unless your shadow is black as the Ace of Spades, I don't think anyone will notice.

actually yes i have dark facial hair.

the thing is that without facial hair my face look quite feminine and i already had 3 laser hair removals.  from one side if i have an extra session the difference will be big but from another side i really hate facial hair and hate looking at it every day in the morning.

Pre transition, I got my other ear pierced, dyed my hair, grew my nails long and plucked my eyebrows.
Only one person at work noticed that anything was 'odd'.
People are generally oblivious in the workplace.

maybe i am over reacting, well i guess it is maybe different when you work in a small company?

i'll just go and do the extra session, and if i am asked i'll say i also noticed the same but also wonder what happened to me.

parents think it is because of razor cut and burns that i have less facial hair.

I know I'm real lazy, but I'd just tell them the truth and let them live with it.

Just say thanks. They don't need to know the details. If they really pry deflect their attention e.g. if they ask why you look different just mention that you got a penis extention or some such. You won't get many questions after that.

I was like tekla, just told the truth. If they asked why I truthfully say I hate it. Most guys I talk to nod their heads sagely and wish they did not have to shave either. All told though if I had not voluntered this information nobody would have commented.

Sometimes it is better to simply say:"why would you care?" or "why should i tell you?"

The women that does my laser facial hair removal told me when i asked if many guys get this she said yes, so if someone asks i'll just say i was tired of shaving. The hrt will after a few months may change your facial features enough people will start asking things like did you lose weight, did you get a new shirt, did you get a haircut etc. i'm starting to have fun with this and so you know i'm not out yet.

every easy just to say you're tired of shaving.  If you don't make a big deal out of it, no one else will either.

From experience this definitly works. People will be more curious about how much it hurts when you tell them than anything else.

Yes. For electrolysis, you let the hair grow. For laser you don't, unless you want to set your face on fire.

seconding stealthgrrl.
I shave every day, and the only requirement for laser is that you shave the morning of.

There are a few things to avoid for like a week or two prior, such as any lotions with Vitamin A deriviatives (Retin-A, Retinol, etc) since that makes skin very susceptible to sunburn.  The laser exposure would probably result in a burn.  Aside from those kinds of things (which any laser clinic should clue you in to) there's not much to it.

Post treatment:
Some redness/swelling is common, mine usually lasts for a few hours.  Shaving the next day is tricky and can really inflame the skin.  You may not have that problem though, depending on the darkness/patchiness of the hair you're trying to remove.  Still, giving yourself a day or two to recuperate isn't a bad idea just in case you react badly to the laser (i.e. redness/swelling lasts a little longer).

What are the prices you have been finding in your areas --- is the below good?

Quote

The beard is usually $175 per treatment but right now it is on special for $125 per treatment or you can purchase a package if 6 for $600. But as it seems that you know it is not likely to be done with only 6 treatments, all consecutive treatments there after would be $125 or the current special which ever is better. Now, we do also offer a Full 2 Year Package... these are all the treatments you should need, plus they are guaranteed for 2 years so if you have any re-growth in the 1st 2 years you can come and get treatment for free. The 2 year package is $1400,and we offer financing at 0% Interest for 12 months, that makes it a  little more than$100/mo.  After 2 years if you ever need a touch up it would only be $40.

What do you think -- is this a good deal?

The 2 year package sounds like the best deal. I paid $800 for 6 treatments and $50 per treatment thereafter. Considering you only go about once a month, you're talking a minimum of 24 treatments for $1400 or $58.33 per treatment. And only $40 each after that? Definitely a good deal.  ;)

Last time I went, my laser lady (an RN) also told me she will do hair anywhere. If that's the case with this place as well, then it will be well worth it. If she hadn't brought it up, I was wondering exactly how to ask about the, uh, you know, down there part required for SRS...

The two year thing sounds good, and getting free touch ups is even better.  A lot of us have had good luck with laser (my avatar pic is after 7 or 8 laser sessions over the course of not quite 1 year).  I'm wearing makeup of course, too, but still, it's not like OMG, I have a beard!!!

There are some stubborn spots I haven't been able to get rid of.  I'm doing electro on those parts right now, so be prepared for that possibility.  I'm not saying it will happen, just that it could.

I am definitely considering this...  It should take care of the 80 of my beard that has pigment.  Unfortunately I am getting OLDER ( I hate that ) and I have greys, and whites coming in.  I believe I will have to leave those for electrolysis.  I did try electrolysis - found a girl that did it for 145 for a two hour session.   She did a great job on my chin but it swelled up for a couple of days and looked like  Jim Carrey's butt chin on "Me, Myself & Irene".   Maybe the problem was she concentrated on one area.  When I do it again I think I will just have her clear the whites evenly over my whole face... you know some here some there  over several sessions.

daisybelle--
sounds good.  electro is a bit funny, not like the sunburn effect of a laser.  I would expect that spreading out the work will help keep swelling down.  also, lots of ice, and advil is an anti-inflammatory.
