Title: First Therapy Session
Post by: Stephen on January 05, 2009, 11:29:48 PM
I had my first session with a gender therapist at the Center for Sexual Health at the UofMN. It was mostly just him getting to know me but it was amazing. It was good to talk about it and get actual feed back rather than me trying to inform someone who knows nothing. He is being sensitive to the fact that I have a 6 hour drive from my college to get there and says I only need to meet with him once a month rather than twice. A few of the questions caught me off guard especially about my sexual life cause I don't really think about it.

I got a lot of information and got pointed in a new direction for research. I have the possibility of getting a recommendation fro hormone therapy and chest surgery in 3 months. I did a little research on chest surgery which includes pictures of the different surgeries and found one site that is very good with describing the surgery and answered a major question which is cost. I was expecting $20-40 thousand and every where I have seen the prices being quoted at $1500 to 8000 which is a lot cheaper. :) Cheaper also means I can do it sooner than I had expected which is good because not only are my boobs being there annoying and wrong but they are also causing back pain and I have a feeling some of my breathing issues.

$20-40K sounds high, $1.5K sounds low.  I'm not sure I'd want a discount surgery.  However, the number of people who are seeking cosmetic/plastic work has dropped in the last year (much like people buying new cars) and you might be able to find a discount.  But I'd really do my homework on the people first.

Yeah most of the people that quoted their own surgeries were 6K to 8K. so I'm just going to get enough probably around 9K so I can live on my time off of whatever job I have at the time. Of course I will do my research and talk to the doctor I choose for my surgery about actual price. The doctor if I get the job I want will probably be in Minneapolis/St. Paul or at Mayo (Rochester, MN).

$6-8K sounds more realistic.

All right! Good for you!

If you have insurance (isn't that required if you're in college?), find out whether your top surgery might be covered. If you are having problems with your back AND your breathing, you might luck out.

Glad it went well.

Yeah anything over 10k for top surgery is absolutely ridiculous. As is anything below 5k, so be careful.
