Title: The purge
Post by: banshee on January 07, 2009, 02:35:24 PM
 How many purge's are average?

I was thinking about it after my earlier posts and my statement of 12 purges or more in my life seems accurate. Mostly I've lost shoes in those purges, but I've also lost some nice outfits and such. If I had just held onto all that I'd have a nice shoe rack by now. The hose and nylons I can get over, but some of the other stuff I'll never see again. Shoes are especially hard as the styles change so rapidly. What was I thinking? (Then again I know exactly what I was thinking, that I can change and that its wrong, etc... Either way a loss).

I've never purged, I add, I subtract, but I've never tossed the lot of it.  When I began going out a lot, I had to really change a lot of what I was wearing, but that's a different problem.

I can understand the modification of the wardrobe, some gets moved out and others added. I just wish I hadnt tossed away so much over the years. Most of it I would have eventually discarded anyways as it was a poor look/fit, but some were gems. I miss the gems.

There are a few I miss, I outgrew them, or they were too big after I lost weight, one I gave to a girl I knew who really needed a cocktail dress, some were lost in moves.  So it goes.

I only purged once and that was when I was "housing challenged."

That's not as much a purge as stripping it down and sticking with what you really need.

I've never formally purged. I've throw out stuff I decided I didn't like (as in, "What the f*** was I thinking???"). And after I lost weight, I donated a lot of outfits to a theater group.

Although until I was 26, I was so "housing challenged" that I wasn't able to acquire anything worthy of purging in the first place.

I have gotten so disgusted with myself that I've boxed everything up and hidden them away in the attic or basement or a storage locker. The longest stretch was 6 months. But I knew enough not to make it permanent.

Oh ... my "failure to purge" isn't limited to dresses. I suspect there's packrat DNA in my family tree. I keep books. Magazines. Electronics. My last four computers. A big box of floppy disks. At least I did discard my old card decks and 9 track mag tapes, though. Most of them, anyway.

 LOL Marysue.

I used to hold onto all sorts of computer parts until the wife finally gave me the "sort out what you REALLY need and toss the rest or i'll toss it all" speech. Otherwise I'd have about 10 computers in parts packed away in boxes.

Hi
I purged once on coming to Australia and being by myself. Got all sorts of crap. Waist long blonde wig, tiny miniskirts, all the whore look.

Don't miss it.
Now fashion drives me, too much stuff, not enough time to wear ;D Cindy James

I've only purged once - when I got out of the Navy and was living with my parents - my mom convinced me that it would be good to "get rid of that stuff" since I shouldn't be doing that sort of thing and I listened at that time (oops).

Now that I've got my own place and am making payments - never again :)
