Proposition 8, if you recall, changed the California state constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage. That is to say, Prop 8 allowed discrimination into the state constitution. Eight Maps allows you to see who the people are who donated in order to pass it.

This is a great tool to identify people in your neighbourhoods to try to have respectful conversations with. Although, the latest study on voting patterns suggest that the people who voted for discrimination would do so no matter how many LGBT friends they have... Hardly the amounts that were claimed the Mormons gave.
Not all members of the CoJCLDS live in Salt Lake, California has a huge population, as does Nevada, where a lot of the pro money came from too, seems that Las Vegas thinks that if Cal has no gay weddings, and they do, CHA-CHING.
It's not a "claim" it's a fact, that Mormons were significant contributors. As tekla states there is a sizable Mormon population in California, but also, a lot of donations didn't come from SLC but other areas of UT.

I think the map is a bad idea. It gives further support to the call to make donor information private, rather than public.
