The sacramento Bee today had a front page article on the Slavic fundamentalist Christian churches in the area and their crusade against homosexuality. I've had first-hand experience with this group at the SacPride event. Their rage against homosexuality is palpable and scary, and they don't tell the difference between gay/lesbian and TS/TG -- to them, we are homosexual, chose to be, and deserve to be damned.
Go to sacbee dot com (Sunday, 6 August). You have to register, but it's free. And you can leave a comment. The article jumps inside and takes up most of the inside page. It's very detailed.
I've saved the article as a word document. STAFF: guidance, please, on the posting of this article. I can make it into a web page and serve it from my website, but there may be some copyright issues to work out.
karen:

Hi Karen,
I went in and read this artilce in full while waiting on a phone call. I am very distrubed at what is going on with this group and you are very right, it is scary to think of dealing with them.
However I do not see a connection between the Gay political issues and the TS/IS issues other than the TS community continuing to allow the "T" and sometimes "I" to be politically used by the GBL community...I have warned for a long time that there will be some ramifications for this within the TS/IS community. But because of political agenda's and the need for money this has gone ignored. I firmly believe that counteraction needs to take place or we can all come to seriously regret the day we allowed for this to merge together. While I sure don't want to get into a debate over this, let me point out that in this entire article the only time the Trans community was mentioned was within the context of GBLT being used.
I am personally not gay and even while I am strait I do not believe that I have the right backed by a religious belief or not, to descriminate and cause fear and pain to any other minority group. What the Russian immigrants are doing is discusting and I personally believe that their actions are a large part of why the conservative gov. that we are under which is allowing them citizenship into this country, to allow for their personal agenda's to move forward by power of their votes. ( Their voting power is mentioned in this article)
While I have much more I could say in regard to the political agenda of the conservatives here, i am going to just stop here. I am sure others will read this article and say what I am thinking anyway lol.
Peace,
Taylor
Taylor;
I've found that such groups rarely see a distinction between homosexuality and transsexuality -- these people behave as if it's one and the same thing. Intersexed may get a 'pass' as it can be proven to be a real, live medical condition, though.
Kate Bornstein pointed out in her book, Gender Outlaw, that it wasn't so much the acts of male-with-male sex that set off the homo/trans-phobes as effeminate behaviour in a person possessing a penis. As a matter of fact, none of the (professionally made and printed) signs waved by this group protesting at the SacPride event said anything specifically about female-with-female homosexuality -- all of the vitriol was directed at males who could commit sodomy. As one of the signs (five copies of this one,) said, "God destroyed sodomy, is Sacramento next?" (that's an exact quote -- I have video of the sign.) The funny thing is, if they met a bear/leather/biker gay man, they'd never figure out he was gay on their own -- they'd have to be told, or 'catch' him in the act of doing something that would reveal the gay identity.
And, Sheila, I hope the above explains it a bit. I've e-mailed you a word document containing the article (posting it here would require special permission from Susan's staff AND the copyright holders.) Please read it and form your own opinion ;)
