Title: A small victory
Post by: Rachel AV on January 22, 2009, 08:22:01 PM
When I was to be in Thailand during the month of November I opened a claim with my "short term disability" insurance carrier that my employer provides. Thinking everything was going along with no problem and I was going to be paid for the 8 weeks I was not going to be working. I did not worry about it until I returned home at the end of November, fully expecting checks waiting for me and to not worry about working for another month or so. But when I got home, no checks only a letter stating since this was a "cosmetic" and "elective" procedure I wouild not eligible for benefits. Long story short with a copy of my therapists letter recommending surgery and the AMA's statement calling on insurance companies to cover transgender issues they reversed their decision and sent me all the back pay I was due.

I think the form Dr.Kamols clinic filled out was part of the problem as they listed I was having a BA along with SRS. So they focused on the BA part and rejected it. If it just stated SRS I think it would have gone through the first time. Who knows, at least it came out right in the end.
