I played it when I was a kid, but stopped after the gold/silver versions. Just grew out of it I guess..

But nothing beats Charizard for pure awesomeness  ;D

I was always more of a Magic: The Gathering kinda gal.

But yeah, that too just got too expensive to keep up. Wish I'd kept some of those old Rares though - could probably finance my surgery with them now. ;)

The original pokemons were awesome

yellow on the gameboy was always my favourite because pikachu followed you around, super cute  ;D

My party always consisted of:

Pikachu
Gengar
Charizard
Butterfree
Mewtwo
Polywrath

I had a massive collection of pokemon cards, I had all of the base set, all the jungle set, and most of the other ones, including a huge collection of Japanese cards, I sold them on ebay and made a pretty penny  ;D

Anyone ever play the pokemon TCG on the gameboy? That was AWESOME

I also played the TCG in real life and went to tournaments and stuff

I'm a nerd  ::)

Me too. XP

Butterfree is bad-ass.

Oh, BTW, Guys and Gals, if you want the adorable pokemon "Shaymin" for your Diamond or Pearl version, head over to ToysRUs Feb. 8-14.

It's like mew, but newer, hedgehogier, and grassier. :D

I was addicted to pokemon as a kid.  It was the reason I got my first game boy.  Some friends of mine talked me into getting pearl when I got my ds and it was well worth it.  I guess you just never really grow out of that kind of stuff.

Crystal was by far the best thought out game, and one that was certainly frigging amazing and still had the soul of the first ones.

Red and Green (Blue) were amazing for the synesthetic because the colors and illustration and styles mixed with the music were just candy to me... Even more so than the other games which started to lose that just a tad.

I wish they'd remake Gold and Silver already...

As a Child who grew up when pokemon was first released (my first kinda nostalgia, makes me feel so old) I feel it's my duty to say there are 151 pokemon. You can maybe count the gold and silver ones, maybe!! But the new million or so are not real pokemon.I'm a purist ;D

Charizard, Alakazam, the three bellsprout ones are by far the best.

I'd have to agree that, for me, it just wasn't the same after all of the other ones came around later.  I had original cards, the Pikachu/tamagotchi thingy, a couple stuffed pikachus, at least 5 figurines, and even the Pokemon board game.  I think that a good part of it was that because there were so many different ones, it kinda lost the feeling like you could ever "catch 'em all."

I only played the originals as well, and baby, I had all of them memorized at one point.

I spent a fortune of saved allowance on Pokemon when I was little, and you know what, it was so much fun as a kid, that I don't really regret a penny lost.

I used to play Pokemon A LOT. After Gold\Silver\Crystal is when I stopped. I had a few teams of Pokemon.

I had a team of level 90 Pokemon, including one I got from my brother when we first started playing the original. It was a Pidgey he gave me when it was at level 15 or something. It was called Pidgey II. It's a level 90 Pidgeot now. The team was Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Pigeot, Articuno, and a Raichu.

----------------------------
I might be more accurate that I had one team and an assortment of other Pokemon I used at various points. Heres what I can remember ... (In no particular order)

Kamikaze (Ho-oh)
Raiden (Raikou)
Jormungand (Gyarados)
Leviathan (Gyarados)
Garm (Houndoom)
Surt (Magmar)
Hastur (Hypno)
Chthulhu (Tentcruel)
Molag Bal (Feraligator)
Mehrunes (Machamp)
Ariados (Mephala)
Malacath (Golem)
Sheogorath (Alakazam)

These were basically done as an in joke:
Chatturhga (Charizard)
Xellotath  (Venusaur)
Ulyoath (Blastoise)
((Not sure if I spelled them right))

Also, I always wanted a Missingno so I could name it Azathoth.

There was more but I can't remember them...

I often joked with my brother that I was clearly the most powerful trainer ever since I had enslaved gods fighting for me.  :D

Pokemon Pearl seems to be easier than I remember. I beat the elite 4 challenge the first time through with an average level of 47 or so. Leaf green on the other hand is just as aggravating as I remember, but I want to finish it before I migrate my team to pearl so I can get Mewtwo!

Platinum is such a sweet game.

My party:
Torterra

Luxray
Staraptor

They're pretty balanced for a party that's specifically designed to deal damage.

-flail- OH MY LORDY do I LOVE Pokemon. XD;; It was a really huge childhood vice for me, and, well, I guess I never really grew out of it :P My first experience of the games was Pokemon Red or Blue that belonged to my friend - he had a level 99 Mewtwo that he wanted to get to level 100 but... was too lazy :D;; So he basically just gave it to me and said "here, you can borrow this; could you try and level up that Mewtwo while you're at it?"

So I did, and I was hooked.

My favourites tend to jump and hop around quite a bit, but a definitive top 5 for me would have to beeee... (in no particular order - except for Squirtle. He will always be my number one <333)

Squirtle
Pikachu
Dratini (and all subsequent evolutions <3)
Magikarp
Charizard (Because he's just BAD and we all know it)

Bit of a water/dragon fan to be honest. Pikachu's just there because he's fudgin' ADORABLE xP

Claire, I completely agree with you - the original 151 were by far the GREATEST, but Pokemon Gold/Silver hold a very special place in my heart. Everything up to the second generation is, to me, 'proper' Pokemon. As much as I love Ruby/Sapphire/Diamond/Pearl, they're just not the same. Also, it may just be me, but are Pokemon getting uglier and uglier...?

                         Butterfree
                         Ninetails
                         Gengar

Gengar, Alakazam, Staraptor, Tentacruel, Luxray and Rhydon. I wanted to have the evolution of Rhydon but used the item on the wrong Rhydon :( After all the EP training I did on it! Argh. Anyway, my favourite Pokemon are Tentacruel, Alakazam, Gengar, Rhydon, Sandslash and Scyther.

Well let's see. . . they depend on the game in question. These are some favorites.
Espeon
Umbreon
Absol
Blaziken
Jirachi
Skuntank
Flygon
Zangoose
Scyther
Kadabra

Don't understand why Bug is so strong against psychic/dark type in D/P/Pt, someone enlighten me. And ground against poison.

They just add a new hierarchy of godliness every time. They all evolved from mew. . . but now they were all created by a pokegod. The land and sea were created by Kyogre and Groudon, but now space and time itself have a creator too.

Seriously, what's left to add?

Pokemon's an old friend of mine; since Yellow. I've gotten pretty into it.
I'm actually IV breeding a Staryu as I write this ^_^

My favorite has always been Clefairy. I totally understand the Team Galactic goons and their Clefairy obsessions... Though I like a lot of Pokemon, either for their cuteness or just for their sheer badassery (Gyarados, anyone?)

I will also agree with the 'how will they top gods?' sentiment; I just don't see how they'll get better than the creator of the universe. I remember when Mewtwo used to be the most terrifically unbalanced one....

Which leads me to wonder how the heck you would be able to catch Arceus anyway. Shouldn't it just be able to go "You don't exist." and then poof, Trainer's gone?

Unless it wants you to catch it, perhaps? Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure all of the legendaries want you to catch them. It's the only way it makes sense.

For a couple of legendarys, they say that they are "Testing" you, and when you capture a legendary, it's because they let you capture them because they find you worthy.

I think it was either Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Groudon, or Kyogre that had that backstory...

I don't remember which.

Also, I believe that's why they only produce a handful of Masterballs in the games, they don't want to take away pokemon's will to choose... Otherwise, it's kidnapping...

Yeah, Giratina is testing you, or so I seem to recall Cynthia saying.
Dialga/Palkia might want to be caught; their catch rate is ten times that of a normal legendary...
They were having a really bad day, though.

A shame their power is suppressed by the Pokeball. I wanted to mess with space-time.  :(

The only legendaries I ever got were Ho-Oh and Suicuine (sp?). Old school for the win!  ;)

Bought Red the day it came out.  Collected all 151... then my friend "borrowed" my game and when he gave it back he had erased my save file and blamed it on his siter *sigh*.  I also played Yellow (bleh) and Silver.  I stopped playing after Silver.  Then Leaf Green and Fire Red came out.  So I bought Leaf Green YAY now I can play as a girl! and still have my fave of all tiem CHARIZARD.  Then my brother convinced me to get Diamond.  I liked it alot, I didn't collect all the pokemon but I did get all the Legendaries (including Arceus and that cute lil' Plant hedgehog what's it name?) but I've lost Diamond somewhere :(  So now I only have Leaf Green and the original red... but Red's internal battery has run out so the save function doesn't work.

So not gonna lie, I'm looking forward to HeartGold and SoulSilver, to play through Johto and Kanto again.

The games need to have more than one region, which is why I loved those ones so much.

Anybody do that pikachu-color pichu/spiky ear pichu deal? Are they any different from normal pichu (besides appearance)?

Post by: Luna! on February 21, 2010, 11:54:10 PM
They (the off-color/spike-eared Pichus) can't evolve, I hear. I have little idea about the rest of it, though...

With HeartGold, I can finally get the last of the blasted things and finish the Pokedex off myself (at least until the next wave arrives  :P). I only need the Johto starters (minus Chikorita) and Entei/Raikou/Suicune. Technically I could get them now, but that requires repeated playthroughs of Emerald and LeafGreen that I'd really rather not do.

5th gen? I'm both excited and dismayed; I've been with this too long to quit, and I'll look a little odd when I'm 85 and still playing...

On the other hand, I'll have all 75,618 Pokemon in existence at the time, which will take the kids years to collect from zero. ^_^

I'm a Pokemon old schooler. I can probably name all 150 of the original pokemon (plus mew) but I'd get lost trying to memorize all these newfangled pokemon that keep getting added to the roster. Anyway, my main Pokemon roster looked something like this, if I can recall:

Pikachu
Chansey
Blastoise
Vileplume
Ditto
Flareon

Mewtwo would sometimes be in there as well, because of it's sheer wow factor.

It was big when i was a kid in the 90s. i had a bunch of the cards (and they are still floating around somewhere) and played it on gameboy up until the silver/gold ( i had silver!). after that i guess i grew out of it, and it was changing too much. i liked the original silver/gold and before. One of my favourite pokemon was Cubone. his story was just so sad and on the card i had of him he was crying at night by himself and i thought it was so heartbreaking and i wanted to help him ^ ^

But Heartgold and Soulsilver are out tommorow! :D

I shunned the post-151 for years and years, but then my boyfriend got me Pokemon Platinum, and, well... went right back to that inner child. I managed to beat the Elite Four with only my stupid Luxray named Sparky barely standing at the end. I found Ruby for $10 and have been playing it whenever I'm traveling.

I have a really clunky original DS, and I swear, every single time a little kid sees me playing, they whip out their shiny, pretty DS Lite and look at me smugly. Fine, they can lord that over the 21-year-old on the metro playing a children's game, but I can drive a car, vote and drink! Beat THAT, eight year old!

(I'm not jealous. Really.)

haha, dont worry brainiac. i'm sure theyll be laughing at me next time with my original gameboy (the really clunky green and black color screen one XD) playing missile command instead of you. "hey you! yeah, you with the antique. whats with the electronic brick? its 2010 you know!" then at that point i stick out my tongue and resume playing :p

Aw man, pokemon is awesome.  ;D
I only really know the first 251, though, because when I was little I couldn't afford a gameboy advance... grr, stupid progression of technology! However, I still reckon the music in the original ones was so much better! My favourite was the Lavender Town music on Red, Blue and Yellow.  :D

i have heartgold, and i've been playing it a couple days. it's like a modernized version of the originals with some new twists to the story. my old crystal version is all screwed up anyway, because when i try to load a saved game there is an error message that says the data has been corrupted. weird.

Hehe Me and a house-mate occasionally play the latest ones on the DS Our battles are usually a point of intrest in the house because of our different playstyles and lack of anything else to do.

He had a level 100 Empolion, And he occasionally threw out a high level tyanitar.

instead of pursuing the 1 level 100 route I went with the option of training up many level 75+ pokemon of varied types I liked but not got any level 100's Eventually it became obvious I could prepair for so many other outcomes while he was limited tactically despite having me outgunned.

I have
Infernape (Blitzer)
Gardevoir  (Barrier warrior + Sleep)
Jolteon  (Blitzer + Paralyse)
Gyarados (Skirmisher)
Dragonite (Skirmisher)
Blissey (Tank+Healer)

Other pokemon I have at highish level but don't use anymore for various reasons.
Golem
Luxray
Wobbafett
Metagross

i do agree that the music was cooler in the older ones. the music in the leafgreen, firered, heartgold, and soulsilver are remixed. i like the music of old video games better, especially by sega.

Bulbasaur is the best pokemon, btw. =]

I've clocked up, like, 10 hours of playing time in the past 3 days. Very happy!  8)

It's sad, I have 70+ hours, and I /just/ got my first 8 badges. I still have 8 more to go. T_T But that's because I'm more concerned with completing my pokedex by trading/breeding/evolving than beating it, atm, so I'm waaay far behind. XD

I like Pokemon ^^ I've only managed to finish Blue, Gold and Ruby. I've got HeartGold, but I haven't played it in a while (still up to the 2nd or 3rd gym lol...=_=). I love the pokewalker, makes it so much easier to catch different pokemon :)

At the moment I'm playing Pearl. I bought it the other day and I've found myself addicted to it again. Oops? I still don't know all that many past the first 150 though. I miss those days. I used to play Gol on my Game Boy and GBA, until I sold it. Woe.

I collected the cards and played the older games. Fell out of the games after Ruby/Sapphire. I couldn't stand the new generations (and didn't have money to get the systems required for playing the new games D:).
Favourite pokemon:
-Haunter
-Psyduck
- Vulpix

My computer's current background is of a Haunter. :p
