Title: Great news from Campbell Soup Company - mmm-mmm good!
Post by: Gwen on February 06, 2009, 02:33:21 PM
It looks like Campbell Soup Company is now providing insurance coverage for Transsexual surgery for it's employees!
This is a HUGE step forward. If a company like Campbell's is doing this, it is hopefully not long before other companies follow suit.

Please take a moment to send an E-mail to Mr. Conant, president of Campbell Soup Company to express your thanks for supporting our community and the LGBT community at large.

Here's a copy of the e-mail I sent:

Dear Mr. Conant,

On behalf of myself and many friends I wish to offer my sincere thanks to you and the Campbell Soup Company for your support of the Transgendered community by providing just and fair insurance coverage for Transgendered employees as well as for your open support of the LGBT community as a whole.  As a post-operative Transsexual woman I have experienced many types of discrimination by my employers over twenty-two years since college, including harassment, being denied use of bathrooms, being denied fair medical insurance coverage for legitimate medical conditions, receiving sub-standard pay, being passed over for promotion, and being forced out of my job.  It is truly heartening to see the steps you and your company are taking.

As I am sure you are aware, the Transgendered community in the United States has historically been, and continues to be, marginalized and disempowered to the fullest extent allowable by law in most states.  It has been my experience that a very large percentage of the Transgendered community is well-educated, highly skilled and creative technical and artistic people.  Sadly, these talented individuals quite often find it difficult to even find or hold employment in positions for which they are imminently qualified.  And many of them are unable to obtain even basic medical care.  All of this is currently "legal" and accepted in most states in this country.

It is my firm belief that any organization who steps forward, as you have,  to publically recognize and support the Transgendered community will find a wealth of new potential dedicated employees and customers.  And more than this, they will have taken a bold step forward toward equality for ALL people in this country and set a fine example for the community and the country.

Thank you again for your support.  Campbell Soup Company has my business and support now and in the future.  I wish you much success in all your endeavors.

Sincerely,

Gwen (last name removed)
