Eli Avidan Azar, a young man with delicate features, is pursuing a degree in the humanities and also writes poetry. Nothing about him hints at the fact that he was born 26 years ago as a girl named Lihi.
About six months ago he underwent a sex-change operation in the United States; when he was still female, he was a lesbian, he says, from the time he was 15. Four years ago, his father, judge Adi Azar, was murdered outside his home in Ramat Hasharon in a case that shook the country: The murder turned out to be part of a convoluted attempt by a prisoner to get his sentence shortened.
In the span of 11 years, Avidan Azar came out of the closet as a lesbian, discovered he was actually a transsexual, underwent a sex-change operation and lost his father under tragic circumstances.
