Right now laser hair removal seems way out of my budget. I've read that it'll cost well over $1000 just to do the face alone. That said, does anyone here have any knowledge about personal electrolyzers? I'm sure that there are those that you can buy that work, but I've seen electrolysis kits for even under $100 that claim permanent hair removal. Does anyone have a particular brand/machine that a starving student might be able to afford?

The last option seems the most viable because of the price and it seems to be less consumer-oriented, but I don't want to fork over $1000 dollars for something that could work for less. Thank you!
Out of the three you listed the ultrablend would work the best IMO, but you have to
consider ease of use, I have a cheap electrolysis gadget, and it works. but getting the
tip in the follicle is difficult to say the least, and is very, very time consuming.
The best machine out there is going to take an extra long time to clear any hair if the
right person is not doing the job, and the right person in this case is someone who has
done the procedure many times. Trust me, my unit was only $50 and is now sitting in a box
likely never to be used again, that would be a real bummer if the unit cost $1000
I was fortunate to have my father loan me the money to start laser on my face...$3500
for six sessions and a two year guarantee that starts after the last session.
I start in Apr...I am so excited!
Just my opinion but if I could spend the $1000 I would be getting the Tria laser, cuz it
is much more consumer friendly and less likely to damage your skin with proper use.

i was under an impression that needless electrolysis is ineffective and not genuine method for permanent hair removal.
It isnt possible to generate an amount of energy needed to create the chemical change using any tweezer methods as the hair is not good at conductivity although you may have some limited success with few hairs and those that have, modify their kits to work like real galv or blend methods.
save your money for real electroysis or laser / electroysis followup
For electro to work, as Ms Delgado mentioned it needs to have the needle inserted.
Also, do NOT try and do this yourself. it is very easy to damage your skin with electrolysis. If you were talking about your legs, where you could experiment here and there without too much damage, fine, but if you mess up on your face, you will be looking at a scarred face for many years.
Do the face the right way, if you want to play in other areas, go for it.
Oh and laser can scar as well, which is why many home ones do not work, they are underpowered to prevent damage to your skin.
Home Electrolysis is not effective. A properly trained and certified tech is the only way to go.
Or Laser.

What message me with the state you live in and ill see if I can help you find a center to do it for you. My Electrolysis sessions are only $15 a session and I go every 2 ta 3 weeks. No more than 30 bucks a month is not bad. Yeah doing it yourself since it has a needle in it is really hard.
Being a fun loving girl I did both laser and electro. I did not do the laser plan but talked to the laser place to do the whole face for 150-$200 a session (It's only about 20 minutes a session anyway). I had to do both as being more mature ( read older then dirt) I was about 50 percent grey. All told I spent about $1000 on laser and so far about $3000 on electro and still have the rest of the year to go (That will be three years of electro BTW). Electro where I live runs about $65 an hour for blend. I get about 4 hours a month done.

Wow, I've gotten so many helpful responses! It looks like a collective nay-say for doing electrolysis at home, but I was guessing it wasn't the best idea.
Nicole, you get to start in April? That's awesome! I'm starting hormones in April (cross my fingers), so that'll be my special gift to me ^-^. As for paying for electrolysis, there isn't really a rush. I mean, I'm not very hairy at all, but I can't cut any fiscal corners at the moment. I'm not getting any financial support from my family. It's fine though. At least I can say I did it myself, so I guess that kinda counts for something.

Hold off on laser and electro if you have little as is, if you get on hormones soon enough you may not need it, or not much.

Well It will be about $4500-$5000 on laser and electro for my face once it's done later this year. I had very dense facial hair. Luckly that was the only place that needed to be worked on hair wise. Though it was just a bit each month so could handle it as a monthly expense.
As to looks, well, HRT has been very very nice to me.

Saved up for LHR & after 2 years ( & a lot of £££££) I am body hair free. I never have to shave now & I also had my chest, pubes & armpits done.

i pay by the treatment i pay 130 dollars per treatment that upper face and lower neck but i have had 13 treatments im almost there maybe you can call the hospital around you and see if they have a dermatologist that does laser. i tried elctro that just hurt to much i like laser
