I got the idea from Jeatyn's topic Movies that make you cry, but hey we go.
Final Fantasy 4/6/7/8/9/10/10-2
Lost Odyssey
BioShock
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Fallout 3
Fable 2
ICO
The only thing that makes me cry about vid games is the price.
Agreed, Tekla.

The Gods are going to get me for that. :)
Janet
So you two have never actually played a game in which you were drawn into the storyline, that something in it just made you cry.
I am into first person shooters. Big Red One is one of my favorites.
Janet
Other than a few games of Mah Jong, pretty much the last video game I played was Pong. But I play cards at work like a religion. A computer can be a tool or a toy, and I prefer the first use.
Civilization!
The English hate me for some reason! And as soon as I have a sizable kingdom going, it gets assaulted and wiped out by the bleeding English!
(And no, this is not because I play French!)
... you left out FFXII!
I totally agree that computers should be used for work. Playstations should be used for games lol
Xenogears - the scene where Fei and Elly visit her house after all the crap they go through in Solaris.
FFVI - Celes' suicide attempt after the world has fallen apart.
Chrono Cross - when Luca makes you realize that all you did in Chrono Trigger was screw everything up and all the sadness that resulted from it.
but the most emotional of all
Valkyrie Profile - Lenneth... just Lenneth - and the scene with the earring. Gosh that will tear your heart out.
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (Saria being practically sacrificed was sad. Also the ending, for so many reasons.)
Parts of final fantasy games
The games that don't make me cry but rather screw my mind with wonder are:
LOZ Majoras Mask
Life Force
Star Fox 64
Pokemon Red and Blues final battle
I've never played a video game that made me cry. I cry at movies all the time but I don't play many video games so maybe I've just never seen one. When do you find time to play them?

For me it's more like
making the time rather than finding it. I'm a CG artist by trade (I created my avatar image for example) so I use the excuse that it's work related research lol
same for me,
some games are social and i make the time to go on them and spend time with peoples i know and care about. no different than spending time online or doing something in the house really and i rather spend it with them anyway
mmmmm
games that make me cry, i always cry end of Secret of Mana...awwwww
Oddly, the only game I've ever cried at the end of was Silent Hill 2.
lemmings.
Suikoden V
That one did the most. It starts off emotional and keeps getting progressively more heartwrenching with a climax that is positively a Kleenex ad. You wonder how much one person can take.
I agree about Lost Odyssey, that's a real tearjerker, too. :-\
wow... just wow. :o
Resident Evil 1 for PS1
(spoiler ahead)
When Barry dies if you get the bad ending...oh man..it makes me cry every time. The letter he gives Jill to take to his family is so touching and just wow...even though that game has corny acting that part is just so heartbreaking
Metal Gear 4
(spoiler ahead)
To me, Metal Gear is one of the best games ever. I grew up with that game. I've been playing it since I was probably 7 or 6 years old. And to play part 4 and see some of my favorite characters die like Naomi, Vamp, EVA, and so on it's just....augh!1 The part where Naomi and Vamp died just had me in tears. And the ending with Big Boss and the music in the credits...omg..instant tears
Kingdom Hearts 2
(spoiler ahead)
The whole Organization getting killed off? To me that is not a happy ending. Seeing Axel die almost made me cry but now I don't care now that I found out Axel killed Vexen
Zelda The Ocarina of Time (no spoiler)
The music you learn on the Ocarina in that game is just so beautiful it almost makes me cry. The scenery in that game is also very beautiful to me even though it's on N64/Gamecube
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Ending)
Zelda: Twilight Princess (Ending, WTF Midna... just WTF... :icon_cry2:)
Zelda: Windwaker (not in the good way, it made me cry because of how bad it was lol)
Tales of Symphonia (So many reasons, Especially Zelos' non-canon death... I didn't expect to cry then)
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (Only certain sections involving Lloyd and characters from the first game)
Okami!(Best cry since Twilight Princess)
Megaman Zero 4 (Ending)
Final Fantasy 7 (several parts)
Tales of Phantasia (PS1, mostly the first era of the game, but there are moments, such as in the elf village)
Tales of Eternia
Quest for Glory: Shadows of Darkness (not to spoil it, but somebody dies for greater good)
Sanitarium (the childhood chapter)
Prey (ending)
Radical Dreamers (a text based Super Famicom game, lots of crys in it)
Dragon Quest 6
there are more, but i have to dig them from my big bin of games to remember them
Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. Not the storyline or anything, but I played that game a lot when I was a kid so when I hear the song for the credits at the end of the game it'll bring a tear to my eye.
Yay for reviving dead threads!
Too many games to count have made me cry. Think of an obvious one. . .yeah, that one. I cried.
Here's a surprise, though: Super Mario Galaxy made me cry. Not just the end, either. My anticipation of this game was so strong that when I launched off that very first planet and the music started up, I wept tears of joy and awe. My inner child hadn't been that enthralled since. . .I saw the first trailer for the game.
The only video game that made me cry that I remember is inFAMOUS 2 where I had to kill Zeke.

might as well add to my list since this was revived.
Lunar: The Silver Star and Eternal Blue
LIVE-A-LIVE (or LIVE-A-EVIL depending on how you look at the box art)
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 13
Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core
Dragon Quest 4 (PS1 version only)
Chrono Cross
Xenogears
(possibly) Tengai Makyou Zero (Tenjin's story and relationship to one of the devil generals)
Final Fantasy 6- Celes' Suicide attempt. Setzer's story with Daryl about their relationship.
Chronotrigger- The death and the Resurrection of Chrono(especially if you bring Marle to the peak)
video games make me cry in frustration when I realize how much of my live I have thrown away into it >:(
The Legend of Dragoon - when Lavitz died.
Final Fantasy IX - Vivi's story got to me, lol.
The books and movies that I've cried from are numerous, but games are rare.
I was playing inFAMOUS 2 again and in the final decision I chose to save humanity and wind up killing myself and all other conduits in the process and I couldn't control my emotions. My eyes were so misty that tears were coming out halfway.
Let's see... Every time someone good died in Suikoden... ;-; and some bad.... I miss you Luc... That series is a huge punch to the gut.
I still tear up every time I think about that little girl in Grandia 2.... Which means I'm tearing up right now. That was the single saddest thing I've ever played. When Susan leaves in Grandia 1, which I never played when I was younger, downloaded it off the PS3, Such a tearful goodbye.
So many other examples, I easily get sucked into a story x3 So making me emote however is not hard.
The end of Lux-Pain made me cry...
Ahh...
FF7....that was the first one to get me. ot to many games get to me like that though. Although I cry all the time at movies and tv shows.
The Mother series can be both funny and sad, especially Mother 3. That one had me bawling several times throughout :(
Mass Effect 3 was most recent. Lots of moving moments.
Also, Sonic Generations. Loved that game so much. Always been a huge Sonic fan. I picked it up at midnight and played all the way through. Cried so much joy.

Oddly, the only game I've ever cried at the end of was Silent Hill 2.
Yes! Yes yes yes yes. Silent Hill 2 was the saddest game ever.
Huh! This is probably the most original topic I have ever seen.
Sometimes I would laugh until I cried, when playing video games with my son... he kept up a running commentary that was hilarious!
I gotta revive this.
There was one game that made me cry super-hard...
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbulk.destructoid.com%2Ful%2F118800-playing-with-others-my-dad-and-i-love-shaq-fu%2Fshaq_fu-468x.jpg&hash=ca8b63f46992a9eeda25fb00331038c29ca3530a)
I rented it, and it broke my Super Nintendo. No Joke.
I am not able to show any sad emotions or cry after, but only two put me to the point of making my eyesight a bit blurry:
- Metal Gear Solid, Otacon Ending. You know why.
- Nier. The First playthrough is bad enough, but getting to the second and being able to see the story from Kaine's point of view will make you want to kill yourself.
I'd like to explain it, but this forum does not seem to have a spoiler tag.
But that was a really sad summer, the combo of Nier, Earthbound and Mother 3 was a bit too much.
Games that made me cry
Sonic Adventures on Dreamcast.
Makken X on Dreamcast
Shenmue 1 on Dreamcast and 2 on Xbox
Anything from Quantic Dreams: Omikron the Nomad Soul, Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecies here in the US) and Heavy Rain.
There's way more but those are the ones that stick out.

Games that made me cry
Sonic Adventures on Dreamcast. SPOILEEEERS
Please, be more careful, not everybody has played it and you are killing the story for them.
My apologies. I'm new here. Is that a spoiler tag you made? If so how can I make it? If not I'll reduce the info to just the games
I've had games bring a lump to my throat but right now I can't think of one that made me cry.
Farenheit & Heavy Rain came close.
I am close to tears however after browsing the list & not seeing Shadow of the Collosuss, Some of those giant beasties deserved to die because they tried their best to kill me.
Two stand out for making me feel very guilty for killing them, the first one in the game ignored me until I stabbed him in the leg, I then climbed up him & stabbed the poor creature repeatedly in the head.
The flying one in the desert also made me feel bad about myself as it was content to just fly around until I deflated its airbags with my bow & arrow, I then pounced on it when it was struggling to stay airborne & set to work slaying it.
Not just a great game but the best single player game ever
Yes I cried at Aeris death in FFVII.
Mass Effect 3 made me cry during the final run with the Love Interest. But it had a few more tearful moments. I was truly sad about Mordin on Tunchunka. I would even venture further back to ME2 with their Shadow Broker expansion, it was a sad moment but more of a happy cry moment. Really if you played the game from the beginning its actually a worth while story, up to the end just make sure you get the extended content stuff for ME3. Or else the ending is going to be junk.
Zone of the Enders (PS2)
Final Fantasy 7 & 8
Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy 8, Lost Odyssey, Heavy Rain, Journey.
When E 102 died in Sonic Adventure ;__; he killed himself to free the animal that was inside of him so it could be with its family... So touching.
I think I RPG'd myself out in the 16-bit era, when every friendly character death was an almost farcical hyperdrama. You just stop caring after a while (WAY TO DIE AT LVL 70 ON A NEW GAME+, CRONO). By the time I started hitting RPG's with stories I could take seriously, I think I was just inoculated against feeling sad from playing a video game.
Seriously, just get through the entirety of Tales of Phantasia, and you'll never take any sad scene in a video game seriously again. I mean it.
Which is actually weird because I'm probably too sensitive to this kind of stuff, and I cry a lot. Actually, now that I think about it, I just have a totally different relationship with video games than with other media. Sad scenes in video games are fine, but I can't watch sad movies without crying and feeling upset for hours. And I try pretty hard to avoid TV shows where things don't magically "work out" in the end because they leave me feeling bad. Same thing with violence. I leave the room and go do something else when my boyfriend watches an episode of Boardwalk Empire because that show is too much for me. But I can blow people up like nobody's business in video games!
War of the Worlds on Xbox arcade, when you've died a thousand deaths due to poor controls & collision detection then you'll shed a tear or two. When you've heard Patrick Stewart repeat the same line over & over every time you respawn you forget what a lovely voice he has & start wanting to rip his voice box from his body!
It's such a shame because the game starts brilliantly with the voice over being done by the almighty Captain Picard but then you take control & things rapidly go downhill, it's a waste of time, money & a a great way to blemish the fine legacy of the War of the Worlds.
H.G. Wells must be turning in his grave at this travesty
Never had a game make me cry, but Red Dead Redemption was about the saddest game I can remember.
Spoiler!!!
John Marston fights through the entire game just to get out from under the FBI and settle down with his family.
He gets home, you do a few sedate farming missions, and then they come and gun him down for no real reason.
Okami and Okamiden.
Kingdom hearts Daysa and BBS.
Dynasty Warriors 7.
So far anyway.
well one of the games that make me cry everything is not by sadness but scare
when i play minecraft with friends i usualy do skype calls with a friend or two and we play toghter
tthen there are those green creeper things that always creep behind us making our hearts fall down into our bottom

Spoilers:
The good ending of Far Cry 3 almost made me cry when Citra was accidently killed. However, once I looked at the bad ending though where Citra freaking kills me after having sex with her, I was glad that I didn't cry.
Halo Reach
*spoiler*
When Jorge decides to sacrifice himself for his homeplanet.
and the ending where the player has to stay behind to ensure the Pillar of Autumn escapes.
Okami and Persona 3 have managed to make my shed tears.
I think Asura's Wrath could do that, too if I'm in a certain state of mind while playing episode 12. It's just... so fricking sad.
As has surely been stated already, The Walking Dead.
Everything's gonna be OK, Clementine. I promise...
Homeworld was affecting, but not quite to crying levels.
