Gerri Cannon is nearly complete. Too bad she's got a long way to go. She knows who she is, what she wants, where she wants to be. She spoke honestly to herself years ago, then with her longtime wife, then with her two teenage daughters.
Now if Cannon, a transgender person, carpenter from Merrimack and crusader for people like herself, could add just one more piece to the puzzle.
Call it human rights. Or perhaps equal treatment under the law. Or maybe education for those who simply don't want to hear about such things. Or have any desire to understand them.
Thus far, our Legislature says no to House Bill 415, which would extend protection to transgender people under the state's anti-discrimination and hate-crimes laws.
