In a press release about the lawsuit, the ACLU mentions a decision by school administrators in February to cancel a production of the musical "Rent," although school officials later relented and allowed the play to go forward. Characters in "Rent" include a lesbian couple, an HIV-positive musician, an HIV-positive computer genius and a ->-bleeped-<- street performed infected with AIDS. The ACLU cited as an "example of the hostile atmosphere at Corona del Mar High School" actions by school administrators when they canceled the play and before that decision had been reversed, saying "they later confiscated rainbow buttons that were worn by some students to show support for the musical."
"they later confiscated rainbow buttons that were worn by some students to show support for the musical."
Clearly in violation of Tinker v. Des Moines School Board, decided back in the 60s.
