Hell do I know about those. Apparently there isn't a cure neither. :(

A few cups of diluted gatorade, 200mg ibuprofen, a B-complex vitamin, and a high protein low fat low carbs no grease breakfast like stirfried tofu, or properly cooked chicken is what I've always heard from the doctors I've dated and who partied a lot, it's exactly what I've done, and I'm already feeling on top of things.

I went to sleep chugging alcohol, and I woke up chugging gatorade>.<

Disclamer: I've never had a hangover, however, I have friends that do have them every time they drink. These are the hints/tips I've gathered over time as to how to "lessen" their impact.

Eat before you drink.
Have a glass of water in between drinks and/or a couple glasses of water before sleep as the majority of a hangover is dehydration.
Drink in moderation.
Sleep for a full 8-10 hours before getting up after drinking.
Eat an Orange, first thing, as you wake up.
Go for a good walk about an hour after you get up after drinking and get your blood pumping as that'll help clear out the remnants of the hangover faster and the fresh air will feel good too.

The prefect cure for a hangover from an old drinker...... Don't Drink.  Or drink lots of water when out.

Hangovers approach me, but then they see my sheer awesomeness, and scurry away in fear.

Well, I have hada couple. But those were nights I do not wish to speak of... :D

I have 2 methods of dealing with them.

Usually, I don't drink, but when I do, I am careful what I drink and how much. Certain types of drinks lead to hangovers, some don't, at least for me. If something makes you foggy and buzzed, you will likely get a hangover. Beer does this to me bad. A few beers and I feel cloudy and get hungover, hard alcohol comes on clean and leaves me clean. Stick with 40 proof or more, but be careful until you know your limit, you won't feel it coming on like you can with beer.

Whatever you were drinking the night before, start drinking it again right away when you get up.  It really works.

First hangover actually.

I don't really agree with the, "drink in moderation or don't drink at all."  It doesn't address the issue because the issue is that I had already drunk.  That and it seems like everytime I go out everyone pushes the drinks at me...

I don't drink. It's too much to deal with.  Sloshing down all that liquid is inconvenient and makes you pee in unsavory bathrooms that smell like naphthalene and harbor god knows what kind of microbes.  Give me a pharmaceutical grade pill instead, lol.  Legitimate pharmaceuticals can be titrated to ones needs, legally prescribed, much more easy to manage, the sought for effect is studied, predictable and has the weight of millions of dollars of pharmaceutical research behind it.  The toxic effects have been measured and spelled out in exacting detail.  And there is no hangover to deal with.  Hee hee...

watch it.

I get really bad hangovers - always have done, ever since I started drinking 20-something years ago. Doesn't stop me though! The things that seem to help (a bit anyway) for me, are an alka-seltzer in a pint of water before bed (not always the easiest thing to remember by the time I'm in that state though ;)), a big greasy fry up the next morning - oh, and Irn Bru the next day helps too ;D

Drinking in moderation should be the first thing you focus on since you sound like you have trouble controlling how much you drink. Being on hormones makes it even more important.

If you want to drink in excess, accept the fact that you will be hungover. If you punish your body, expect to be punished. You don't have to agree, it's not really open for debate. You can't argue with nature.

Drinking in moderation is essentially a waste of money.

If you wake up and you don't smell like booze or vomit or pee or a combination thereof, and you still have everything you took out with you (including extremities such as ears), you may as well have stayed in and watched telly.

Just a proud representative of the student population's view, ahem.

huh?  my attitude may have come across playful, but i'm definitely not suggesting anything illegal.  just that it's better for your overall health if your physician prescribes medication that allows you to not have to imbibe alcohol, if one finds oneself drinking on a regular basis.  when people feel the need to drink frequently or can't say "no" to a drink offered them, then it could be there is an imbalance that could be corrected by an appropriate medication.  that's up to the physician to decide though.

please don't say "watch it" to me unless there is a reason to!  eh?

I've never heard of a prescription that allows one not to imbibe alcohol and there was no mention of chemical imbalances. We don't want to get into discussions about the recreational use of drugs, prescription or otherwise.

QuoteDrinking in moderation is essentially a waste of money.

A good glass of wine with a fine meal give you a pleasant feeling without being drunk.

I got drunk one time at 16 and learned my lesson and never got drunk again in 46 years.

There are cheaper ways to get high without the hangover.

Your post sounded like it was suggesting pill popping instead of alcohol use. I simply warned against that kind of discussion, as I would for any post that sounded like it was promoting drug use. I don't appreciate the confrontational attitude.

We don't want to get into discussions about the recreational use of drugs,

But, we're talking about drinking to the point of hangover, and somehow that's NOT recreational use of drugs?  What?

Why drinking is the most common way, throughout history, for people to recreate with chemicals.

Good point lol. but drinking's legal.
I cautioned the poster to watch what they were saying, as the post sounded like it was headed down the wrong road.

Wow!!! Annwyn gets a hangover and everyone jumps into a Fuss Festival. My My My....

It didn't really sound like anyone was promoting anything to me. The only mention of drugs was legally prescribed and regulated med.s

Understandably, some people use them illegally for recreation. That of coarse is frowned upon.

There are some recovering alchi's and drug addicts here. Let's think about understanding and support to help them work through their problems  :)

Back in the day...

Pass out time... Advils, plenty of water...Jim Beam remanants on the bedstand, in case I woke up.

Morning...
Finish Jim Beam, more advil, water, cigs, shower.

BREAKFAST....I swore by this for too long.
1. 6oz of tomato juice.
2. 12oz can of Coors Light.
3. Bowl of Frosted Flakes.
4. 1 12oz glass.

Mix the tomato juice and half of the Coors Light in said glass.

Pour the rest of the Coors Light over the Frosted Flakes.

Beer and tomato juice... breakfast of a desparate drunkard.

BTW... most misuse of a prescription drug, even over the counter, and contra-directions (ex huffing paint) is illegal in the US.

BTW2... with the exception of detox meds, and few other 'scripts... drug addiction related: proper use dosent result in that "high" feeling. EVEN YOUR HEAVY DUTY PAIN MEDS!!!!... if proper pain managment care is used.

BTW3. Misuse of serotonin reuptake inhibs. would qualify under btw1.

Don't know any cures for a bad hangover. But I do remember a quote in a medical joural obituary.

Prof XXX could drink a bottle of whisky a night. And regularly demonstrated it.

A shot of pure oxygen will put a hangover on hold for a while.

Bryce, you WERE suggesting recreational use of pharmaceuticals.  I'm kind of in school for pharmacy, work there, etc.  What makes you think I would get away with that sort of thing?  Furthermore what makes you think that I won't call out a pill popper when I see one?

Drinking is for the fun, not for the intoxication.  I don't see anything social about popping some xanax or oxycontin unless you're either a stripper or a hooker and ALL of you are on that crap.

Some people drink every week in moderation, some people go out once every couple months and get wasted, some people get wasted every night, some people won't touch it, and still others, apparently, prefer to pop their pills and scorn the antics of us bottle heads.

So, the point of this thread was for me to whine about my hangover.  Hangover's gone, whining is done, and I have to be at work shortly.

Thread closed.
