Title: do you think that true love is objective?
Post by: Natasha on April 21, 2009, 01:11:38 PM
see if i watch a good movie, i say it's good because it was entertaining, thought-provoking, e.g. subjectively good. but i might alternatively mean it's good because it was emotionally true and "real" and powerful and though it might have made me uncomfortable in its truth, i liked it in itself, e.g. objectively good.

i wonder how this idea extends to love. a subjective love sparks off feelings and emotions in me of love. but is there such a thing as objective love? would you say true love was subjective or objective?

I would have to say neither. I feel that true love is unconditional and cannot be analyzed.

There is little more subjected to conditions than love.

You can't truly "love" someone, unless you know them as they are, respect them for who they are, get along with them to at least some extent, and are able to accept and not be too bothered by their faults.

If you feel your lover/partner/mate/whatever your prefer to call him/her is without faults then you do not see them as they are. This is evident because of the undeniable fact that no two person's are the same, and no human being is ever "perfect".

Love is also fickle, and constantly changing, evolving. The blaze of blinding passion simmers to the warm, enveloping loving bond and friendship that can take a couple far into the future if sustained and cared for.

As such, I don't think "love" can be anything but subjective, and that your appreciation for a movie or a thing is not a matter of "love" but a matter of just that, appreciation coupled with enjoyment and liking, but not love.

I agree with the fact true love is unconditional but I believe this makes the... lover have a clear vision of what they are loving. Then they can analyze it.

Might be just a difference of opinions and everyone's own interpretation of true love.
