KALAMAZOO, Mich. - For almost all of his life, Bill Hunter was not comfortable with himself.

From the time he was a child, says the lifelong Kalamazoo-area resident, he was profoundly aware that he was not meant to be in the body he was born with. For more than 40 years, Hunter knew he was meant to be a woman.

Today he is.

In 2008, Hunter underwent gender-reassignment surgery. He is now Amy Hunter.

It is so refreshing to see such a mainstream media outlet present such an uplifting and non-sensationalized article.

I.E. It's just a birth defect, folks, nothing to see here, move along.

So very long ago I knew that if I ever took the steps that I have I would have been relegated to the dregs of society and prostitution.  And now, it is becoming so matter of fact.

I.E. It's just a birth defect, folks, nothing to see here, move along.

But it still need news coverage?  This will be 'nothing to see' when its nothing to print either.  Though the story is 'positive' its still coverage in a freak sense.  The old adage is that 'dog bites man' is not a story, but 'man bites dog' is.  Only abnormal stuff gets coverage.
