Hi Guys,
I'm just wondering if top surgery is tax deductable or FSA (flexible spending account) eligible?
Thanks.
I deducted Top Surgery this year as it was a Medical Expense. Didn't get any off on my taxes though 'cause i didn't meet the minimum requirement. If i hadn't paid in two parts i would have been able to.
Does that make sense? I paid for most in 2008 and the remainder in 2009.
As for FSAs, it depends on your employer (employers decide what is eligible). I processed claims for federal employees and it was eligible, but you had to have a letter of medical necessity (LMN) approved. (Well, SRS was eligible...we were never given specifics on which procedures were eligible, but I would assume that top surgery would be considered SRS...you can always have your doctor explain that if you have to have a letter.)
Usually, the third party administrator (the company handling the FSA) is responsible for approving LMNs. It depends on the company, though. I worked for SHPS.
I would suggest calling. You don't have to give personal info for a general question if you don't want to.
Is this for the UK or US? -lurks-
Good question Asher! I was actually asking for US. I should have been more specific... J.T., Jaimey, is your answer for US or UK? Thanks!
US. :) A good rule of thumb is that if your insurance covers it, your FSA will also.
