Well, i posted the other day in another thread that i had a problem with a certificate through Bridgestone that was for selling tires. it was through walmarts computer system which i absolutely hate. and i tried talking my bosses to change it to Mickie so they could post it, but they referred me to the corporate people.
so at first, i wrote my market man. a three page letter, but somehow it got saved to my computer and deleted, probably one of my kids or one of the fat cats messed with it. so i had to try and remember everything i wrote and it only ended up being a two page letter. my service man. gave the market man. email but i couldn't send it to him from home so i printed it off and took it to my boss told him that the email didn't work at home and asked if he would give it to him since i wasn't on the clock, it is work related and i didn't feel like digging through my locker for my badge. anyway, i went in sunday and my boss told that the market would pass it on to the right people.
i went in yesterday, and was told that we needed to have someone outside cuz they were there, i was like well weren't they just here. my boss left for a few, and came back and said they wanted to talk to me about my letter, the head of HR had made a special trip with the district to come and talk to me.
they basically said that it had to be in my legal name till i get it changed, BUT because it bothers me they will NOT post it. they'll just hide it away in my file in case they ever need it. my boss asked about my other certificate and they said that was fine and to leave it alone. so i thanked them for their generosity and courteousness for allowing me this one little thing. and they addressed the bathroom issue and i told them we've taken care of that on the store level, and they were fine with the arrangement, i told them that all the ladies that i talked to said they werent uncomfortable with me using the ladies room, at least said they weren't and said they probably all wouldn't lie to my face or didn't believe they would and we had a laugh. but then they asked if i had any other issues, and i said no and so i went back to work.
i just thought i would share that everything at the corporate level isn't always so bad at walmart, and for once, something went my way. now i just get the money for my name change among other things..lol.
Sounds like a good day, even if it took a roundabout way to get to it. :)
compromises aren't always perfect, but at least they don't want me to feel like i'm always fighting the machine. a good day for any transperson at wally world. but i'm sure this is only the beginning. i'm savoring this one sweet even if a little sour victory for us. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Good for you, Hon. That least they gave you something.
Janet
So, actually talking the initiative and taking the time to send your problem above you and this board made a difference? Imagine that.
So as someone suggested on another thread corporate has a different view than local? :) Good. Hope this larns ya something, Mickie. Doing what yiou can doesn't always work, but it makes more difference than just sitting around complaining about it does. A lesson for us all, I believe.
Quoteone sweet even if a little sour victory
I suspect all victories tend to have some of that. Congratulations to you.
Happy for you. Glad things are going well. Gee maybe there is hope in Ohio after all.
Take care
Beni
Congrats Mickey, enjoy it, after all you have been through you deserved a break.
I wouldn't look at it as sour at all, some of it is their hands are a likely a bit tied, on the other hand they were willing to work with you to deal with it as best they could. That is a far cry from saying it must be posted as is, or worse firing you.
You can't always get everything, but at least you now know that while corporate may not be entirely on your side, they aren't against you either and that you can go to them if there is trouble. It's a start, and a darn good one.
thanks, all, it is a darn good start. here i really feel like i'm fighting a lot on my own, especially since my sole supporter quit last October. i really do miss her. when i needed hours, she made sure i got them or if i needed to switch a day with someone, if i had a problem, she made sure she helped me get it taken care of with the right people if she couldn't help me.
they do and they don't have their hands tied. from what i gather, cuz my uncle has written checks to me before as Mickie, and i've taken them to the bank, and they had no problems cashing it. i've had money orders written out to Mickie, and they've had no problem cashing it. I asked if it was a problem, they said as long as it was a form of my name, and it was me, that it was all legal. usually you get found out if you use other people's checks and bank accounts and when found you spend time in jail. from what i read online is that all the ssa(and a few other associations) really cares about is what gender you physically are.
i believe they can implement into their system a part of their program for different people if they want to go by a different name such as:
Legal Birth Name:
Preferred Name:
Also Known As:
Preferred Name for Payroll:
the numbers matching for the company is what really matters in my opinion. if anything legal should come into question. a lot of online application forms for jobs i have filled out recently have a place for your legal name and either below it or above it may or may not have a place for your preferred name.
this will be my next goal after hopefully helping them start their own diversity policy that includes discrimination on gender identity and presentation.

It can be done, but if the system was not designed for it from the start, good luck, getting them to add that to the software will be almost impossible. Especially if it's a Walmart system, they have a massive infrastructure that I cannot see them willing to mess with unless they have to due to cost, complexity and risk.
