THERE WAS THIS SNAKE IN MY APARTMENT THIS AFTERNOON!!!! I screamed bloody murder. I live in Ontario it must have escaped or been set loose it didn't look like a Gardner snake. The neighbors cousin who was visiting is keeping it >.<
*shudders*
Oh I like snakes :D
none here though... :(
*blinks*
QuoteTHERE WAS THIS SNAKE IN MY APARTMENT THIS AFTERNOON
They do not eat much and they keep the mice away.
LOL to scary for me.
I have a friend who has these bugs that look like miniature lobsters running around his house. He tells me they are there on purpose to keep all the other bugs away.
LOL oh my! The only thing running around my house to keep anything away are my three cats LOL

I understand that in some places people encourage lizards to live in their homes for the same reason.
I, meanwhile, have bats in my attic. And I mean that literally, thank you very much. ;) Every once in a while one will make its way into my apartment by mistake, and I have to catch it and take it outside. Last time this happened I found it hanging on my shower curtain. Fortunately I found it
before I went to take a shower. If I hadn't it would have been a rude surprise to both of us, I'm sure.
I lived very near a rain forest for many years and snakes were a daily occurence. Most were none venemous like boas and king snakes. However never assume a snake is safe to handle. Most snakes are beneficial. They eat rodents and annoying things like slugs in the garden. The basic rule is to never trust an animal without any armpits.

Lol. I love that description. It reminds me of my granddad, who used to refer to snakes as "Ol' no-shoulders".
Well could have been worse, one of those Trouser Snakes. I saw one recently and almost threw up. I finally realized it was just the reflection of something in the mirror that caught my eye.

That poor snake, all of the screaming was probably pretty upsetting.
The closest we ever had to a snake in our home was a parakeet with a real bad attitude. It would attack the other parakeet and keep it away from the food. We called the attacker Quetzlcoatl: the Plumed Serpent.
>.< Fortunately he's gone now and i hope i dont have to worries about it anymore. All i can say is its not regular for snakes to even be around here. LOL I mean there isnt many places for them to go. Its all city and no woods.

Here in Mississippi we call them Chicken snakes and they are not poisonous. We have them in our yards all the time.
Reminds me of a younger (but not a baby) rat snake. If so they are pretty friendly once they are used to you.
Thats what i thought. It didnt look like a baby rat snake and the pictures i found on line of rat snakes didnt like quite like him but enough like him. and He was really friendly with the guy thats holding him in the picture. That guys is keeping him i think!! Just what he's doing in Hamilton i'll never know. >.<
It looks like a gray rat snake, and their range extends that far north.
This is by no means boasting. More regreting.
We have the most poisinous snakes, spiders, jelly fish, octopus and conch shells.
At my last house we would regularly have brown snakes getting in the house, venom; fatal if not given anti-venom. Red back spiders, lethal to kids. Major pain to a fit adult. Funnel webs, fatal to kids if no anti-venom given. A very painful and sick time for an adult.
We just check all the time. And never sit on the Dunny without checking it
Cindy
I like snakes. especially with mashed potatoes and Mormon Gravy. And I need a new belt for my jeans.
I would have freaked!
Jay
*hugs to jay* Thank you someone who shares the right attitude
I mean i am fostering 2 kittens and have one of my own. They were playing with the darned thing. As soon as it was away from the front door me still in my pjs ran outside. Leaving the kittens! I'm so horrible. I figured it wasn't poisons doesn't mean i still wasn't scared of it LOL.

I am very happy i live where i live than!! To scary for me.I have to say though Its really just the LAST thing i expected to see in my apartment. Here i was worrying about mice or even bugs no and snake has to wander in. Everyone i told was just so surprised it just doesn't happen.
Well Cali has rattlesnakes, big assed ones - mostly Diamondbacks - as a matter of fact, they range the entire state. Black Widow spiders, Wolf spiders, Brown spiders and a couple of species of Tarantula big enough to take on small pets. Though the tarantula are not poisonous, the bite is very painful. They are large enough, and move fast enough that I've seen them scare people close to death. Most people are not used to a spider, hairy as all get out and as big as their hand.
We have Scorpions too, so shake out your shoes when you go camping in the desert.
It is a cute snake :) But I like reptiles. I use to have a necklace with rattle snake rattles on it
The thing one must most look out for where I'm at are Hobo spiders. I got bit by one and my arm swelled up to twice the size and I had to take antibiotics for two weeks :P
phantom_heart, it was just a joke. But i do really like snakes. They are one of the most misunderstanding animals in the world. They belong to a Goddess. They are soft, smart and usefull (if you have rats or mice in your house).

Well now dont i feel silly LOL I am beginning to see them differently. "they belong to a goddess?" Explain i'm interested to here what that means. ^_^
In many cultures the snake was revered as holy. It was a sign of the rebirth of life. On the island Malta there are still preserved ruins of temples where once statues of the goddess stood who held snakes in her hands. Nevertheless, you certainly know the story of the garden of Eden. The snake was originally a symbol of the matriarchal cultures. Which was here, typically patriarchy became to be a devil. Just, like Eve, as a archetype of the woman. Here some links to it:
