Title: Bilateral Orchiectomy Candidate Criteria
Post by: VegasBarbie on May 21, 2009, 11:31:41 PM
Hello everyone. I am a Male to Female transgenderd person for which whom has been living full time for the last 4 years. I began HRT at age 20 in 2003. I think its time to take things a step further...and consider Bilateral Orchiectomy.

I have been thinking long and hard and would really like to venture this route. But there is really not that much info on the procedure. So my question(s)
are these:

1. What is the criteria to have Bilateral Orchiectomy transgender??

2. Do you have to have a letter from a phycisian???

3. Whats the cost of a procedure like this?

4. Whats the down time or recovery time like???

Thank you to all those that reply ;)

Haven't had it done, this is what I understand

1. You've been living female for 4 years, you qualify
2. You'll probably need a letter from your therapist. Ask your surgeon if he or she requires one.
3. Somewhere around $2000
4. It's outpatient, so you can go home that day and go to work the next.

Oh Potatoes!!!!

Thats some really great news!!!!

Every transwoman that i have seen on youtube said it was the best decision they ever made.

Now alls I have to do is find a surgeon in Las Vegas,NV ( where I reside ) , But that is proving to be a little harder than I thought that would be ;(

1. What is the criteria to have Bilateral Orchiectomy transgender??

It's the same as the requirements for SRS, a year HRT/RLE and 2 letters of recommendation from therapists (or 1 that has been signed twice from the therapist and a supervisor)

2. Do you have to have a letter from a phycisian???

see above

3. Whats the cost of a procedure like this?

the cost depends on the way it's done, the cheapest I've heard was $1500, the most can easily be 6k, $3500 I believe is average rate.

4. Whats the down time or recovery time like???

a week or 2

You're forgetting one of the most important criteria for a bilateral orchiectomy: having two testicles! >:-)

If SRS is your ultimate goal, an orchiectomy may affect future surgery.
Some SRS surgeons dislike prior orchiectomies due to shrinkage of skin and/or scar material.

You may want to start reading here: http://www.geocities.com/sherrylanina/OrchiectomyTrans.html (http://www.geocities.com/sherrylanina/OrchiectomyTrans.html)

Some of the info might be dated (especially about practicing SRS surgeons.) And get to it quick, geocities is about to disappear. :)

I've looked into that procedure as well. but with srs as a goal as was mention'd above the surgen does end up with less to work with. but if money is hard to come by and you dont see that happening any time soon. I think it's worth concideration. it's considerabley cheaper after all haha.
