KATHMANDU, May 23 - For 19-year-old Bishnu Adhikary of Naudanda of Kaski district, ge-tting her citizenship identifying her sex as third gender was the most victorious moment of her life.

Backed by a Supreme Court (SC) recognition of third gender, Adhikary was the first person to get citizenship with this identity after she convinced her brother, the village development committee officer and chief district officer seven months ago.

Too bad we USA'ans live in a culturally backward country.

Oh my god Karen, there are people in these BBs that would go absolutely apesh*t crazy with anything that came even close to a suggestion that they were some kind of 'third' gender.

Not to mention that our backwards Census is in the process of putting GPS locations on all American houses, dummies that we are.

The link seems to be broken.  Here is one that I found:

...And I can think of several current and former members of Susans who would be part of that contingent.

I want those of us who are trans to have equality, to have real political power to prevent being fired or not hired just because we're trans, to not be denied the opportunity for the housing we'd prefer and can afford just because the landlord doesn't rent/lease to 'our kind, to be able to deflate our bladders in the appropriate restroom without shame or being shamed (or run out, or arrested,) to not have our assaults, beatings and murders de facto condoned by society.

I don't like the idea of being pigeonholed as a third sex.  I do like the idea of being (anonymously) counted, even if the stealth-at-all-costs members or our community guarantee a significant undercount that is prohibited from fixing through statistical adjustment.

If we're going to achieve equality, we have to gain sufficient visibility.

I do not believe in third gender as an official option. It is clear that all transwomen that have achieved some kind of recognition for their ''real'' gender will lose it  as soon as third gender becomes an option.

My full personal data in population records says my gender M to date x, F from date x. I have yet faced and may face serious problems because of that.

What about those who are third or other gendered? I get the point though that if it was a category for transexuals to be put into then it is a bad idea.

I'm a little confused as to whether or not that's the case. It doesn't really say.

I'd love to see an actual count, but the census is a political deal, and we ain't got that kind of clout.
