Life, the 60's, transgender tots, and parental abdication

I wasn't born until the late 1960's so I have no personal connection to the social and cultural upheaval happening then.  However, I do know some aging hippies and, well, we all seem to hear about how cool the 60's were.  The era when "America came of age."  Oh sure, there was lots of sex, drugs, peace, drugs, tie-dye, drugs and rock 'n' roll.  And drugs.  But we struggled as a nation with race relations and civil rights, the Vietnam War, the assassinations of President Kennedy, his brother and Attorney General Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr., just to name a few of the major events.

I urge Susans members to consider visiting the article and leaving a thoughtful, intelligent comment that intelligently and respectfully derides the assertions this writer makes.

Remember, no name-calling.  No ad-hominem attacks.  Well reasoned arguments that respectfully knock down his assertions.  And you're not writing to change his mind, but any reasonable readers who visit the article.

I grew up during the '60s. I was more of an observer than a participant.  There wear some good things, some bad things and other things that needed to be out in the open. To me the '60s tore the veil off the some things that the country had not dealt with either with sincerity or with indifference.

Some events like the civil rights movements and the anti-war sentiments were destined to happen. As far as gender is concerned, I believe the gender binary system did more harm to LGBT people. Not all boys played with guns, and not all girls like Barbie dolls. No two people are alike and to marginalize someone because they are different is cruel and inhuman.

I do agree with Mr. Shishmanian on some points (abortion) but I think that he needs to go deeper in his findings before coming to his conclusions, especailly in regards to gender.

Maybe I am missing a button or something, but all the comments appear to be truncated after about 200 words.  Is there a way to see all the comments?

I did slog in with my opinion too.

Interestingly, it appears that all the comments are against the author.

They are truncated after too many words.  There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission.  (et cetera, et cetera.)

They could have at least said that!  I was so eloquent, so precise, it was some of the best writing I have ever done!  Now it is lost to the electron void...

Oh what a world!  What a world!!
