RE: "SEX change clinic got it wrong" (31/5). Until recently, I was a member of Dr Kennedy's clinical team at the Gender Dysphoria Clinic and can reassure the readership that she is anything but the irresponsible maverick depicted by sections of the article. She is a skilled and conservative psychiatrist who led a team of seven clinicians, consisting of both medical and allied health professionals.

The team was collectively responsible for all decisions made in relation to treatment but, above all, every aspect of the treatment process was governed by international standards of care. In contrast to the impression made by the article, the rate of post-operative regret is minuscule compared with the rate of post-operative relief--
