And now Chastity has decided she's Chas, a man trapped inside a woman's body. She'll become the boy her dad always wanted using medical technology to mutilate her body to make it more like a man's. That "doctors" will participate in this travesty just further illustrates our cultural insanity. But why not? They kill fully-formed babies, what's a few operations to make someone's body match more closely his/her identity delusion.
It's wonderful how right wing extremists help us by showing how hateful they are for rational people to see.
There are some people that I just couldn't debate with. And I love a debate. The narrow mindness of that "news article" beggars belief. I also read that a raving fundamentalist bigot in the USA recently murdered a Dr who performed an abortion to terminate a badly mutated fetus. OK people have opinions but killing people?
I feel sorry for Chaz and I hope he is given the privacy and respect that he should have as a normal human being.

I totally agree.
Wasn't the Oklahoma bombing done by funadamentalist bigots or neo-nazi's (same thing)? I may be wrong. Bigots are bigots and they believe that they are correct no matter what they think. I know many fine and lovely Muslims who believe in the beauty of the Koran, I know many Christians who can find wonderment and betterment from the Bible.
But there seems to be another class of A***holes who just don't have it. But of course THEY are right.

I feel bad for people like Chaz, who have grown up in the spotlight because of famous parents. It's a shame that the fame of his parents and subsequent transition has attracted so much media attention as well as the attention of idiots like the author of this article. Why on earth must they harbor so much hate for a decision that doesn't affect them? Geez.

You know, just because someone has different difficulties than we do or fewer difficulties than we do, doesn't mean that their life is suddenly roses and sunshine and that they have nothing to complain about. That's like saying no one has the right to ever be upset about anything ever no matter what it is because at least we're not starving. ::)
Money certainly does not solve, mitigate, or make up for all of someone's problems. Joan Crawford's daughter shouldn't have whined so much, at least she was rich? ::) Come on.
No, but there were no allegations of abuse, as there were with Miss Crawford even when those kids were young. It's not like she was a 'nice' person or anything. But the Bono kid had every advantage growing up, as he did, as Hollywood royalty. Hell, Sonny was rich when he met Cher, the rest (the Sonny and Cher million selling records, the hit TV series, and Cher's career apart from Sonny, which did well too) was just gravy. And if you think that having that kind of money doesn't change things just think on this. He didn't 'come out' - a press agent released a 'coming out' statement (which I'm damn sure he didn't write) to the public for him. Not exactly the average route.
"Not the average route" and having money doesn't mean that transitioning in the public eye and having national magazine covers devoted to getting your name and pronouns wrong is suddenly easy. You don't have to devalidate someone else's struggle just because it's different from yours or some specific aspects are easier.

He could've transitioned out of the public eye. It would've been very easy to not pick up the phone, call a publicist and say, "Draft a press release about my desire to be male." Chastity Bono isn't exactly someone that people take a sip of coffee and ask, "Hey, whatever happened to her? Haven't seen anything lately." Humans and goldfish are not so different after all.
Regardless of whether Chas brought this on himself or not, the fact remains that there will always be vultures (a.k.a. the media and the religious right) who will jump at the chance to tear the GLBT community a new one. I think these lines from the quoted article are quite telling:

He may have felt that it would be better to come out on his own terms instead of having every gay magazine and tabloid slowly picking up on his facial hair and increasing masculinity and doing the malicious rumor thing. Tabloids pick up on D- and F- list celebs all the time if they're doing something 'scandalous' enough and news is slow. And then gay publications get all pissy at every celeb who refuses to come out. Etc etc etc.
Celebrities who out themselves just create the type of publicity that causes ultimately to REDUCE the mystery of the process.
