Title: Passing!
Post by: nonie on September 10, 2006, 11:16:17 AM
Justin (my SO) took me out for lunch after helping me get dressed in boy mode as giving me some tips on posture and stuff...  At the restaurant he coached me in how to sit like a guy.  And when the waitress came she said "What can I get you guys?"  Granted, "guys" is kinda unisex but hey, it's close :)  Afterwards she asked if the check was together, which NEVER happens when I'm in girl mode.

I think I passed!  As like, a 15 year old, max, but still :D

Yeah, the check thing definitely says a lot.  Long before transition whenever I had a meal with a female, the always assumed we were a couple.  When out withtother guys, they asked if the checks were togethered.

Hey thats great Mikko.

To sit like a guy, just take up as much space as possible, keep your legs open, lean back on your chair from time to time and put your legs up on the table ocassionally. >:D

For added effect the hand down the trousers can't be beaten, or playing pocket billiards (pool to you guys) was also good....

Ahhh the things I don't miss... That reminds me I don't think I have had an itchy vagina in 4 years??? used to be every 4 minutes with the Thing?

(Who is now puzzled why?).. ??? ??? ???

Haha, Buffy, maybe I should start scratching :)

Taking up space was one of the things Justin told me to do.  For some reason I always did the slouching, legs splayed with a hand in the waistband of my pants thing.  I don't know why.  Every time I noticed I was doing it I sat bolt upright, crossed my legs and clasped my hands in my lap :P  But I've got to get used to leaning forward on the table.

Too bad I suck at pool.  Generally I take major advantage of guy wanting to let the pretty girl win...  I might have to give up pool so the old flirt-to-win method doesn't accidentally slip out :P

Go hang out in gay bars. Maybe they let the pretty boy win :P

Sounds like passing to me. I was never coached. Never had to be I guess. I remember when I was a kid my mom always was telling me to close my legs. Always. ;)

Hi, I'm Jack new here. Umm, yeah. It feels great to pass doesn't it? I honestly pass without trying and it's kinda funny but I love it. Just it's impossible to pass with my mom around seeing she makes sure people know cause she wants me to be a girl so bad. Honestly, I already have a kinda deep voice so I'm kinda scared when I start taken T it'll be really deep, lol. But I can't take that for awhile.

Hi Mikko:

I concur with the others; it would seem that you did pass..and I'm sure that you will bet better at it with practice, self-steem, and determination.

Quote from: MarcoI was never coached

Some of us do need to be coached :).  I am not surprised that you were never coached for obvious reasons. ;)

Quote from: MarcoI remember when I was a kid my mom always was telling me to close my legs. Always.

Well, my mom was constantly telling me the opposite. "tinkerbell, spread your legs apart when you sit"

Anyway..this is such good news Mikko, I am sure that when testosterone time comes, you will not need too much coaching...

Yes Marco, she might have said keep your legs closed, but mostly I remember your Mom yelling, "take off your shoes" and don't sit on the bed!!!!  Your ancient friend, Carol

Justin does seem to be enjoying it.  He still says he doesn't think he could deal with me having facial hair but is definitely getting more and more comfortable with everything else.  He flirts more than usual with me as soon as we're out of eyeshot of other people too.  I've been going out only in boy mode for 4 days now!  And *everyone* says "guys" to us, way more than before.  I try not to talk but people don't seem to react like they're reading me when I do.  Even with girl glasses.  There are so many ultra-trendy Asian guys in this city that I think maybe people are just used to seeing tan guys in unusual frames...

Got a pic of me in boy mode again!  Girly glasses and girly mouth...  I always hated that my adam's apple was so visible before but I now I'm glad :)

I was just doing that :)  Yay!

I still need new glasses.  But I just found out I have a big check coming tomorrow so they'll be coming soon :D  AND my SO just got a new job with a nice fat pay jump.  Yay again!  I can so get glasses :)

Big checks always welcome....

Glasses can make a difference, but don't do what I did....

Weeks into RLT I needed to have glasses and went to the opticians... I was approached by a lady assistant who called me Madam and asked if she could help. I said I needed glasses and she asked what type.... my immediate reply was " I am not sure never been a woman before or worn glasses"

The first and only time I have outed myself.

My usual optician is a pricey boutique in the gay district that happened to take my insurance.  They'd probably be more than happy to help me select a flattering pair of men's frames, but I no longer have that lush insurance plan and can't afford their designer frames on my own.  I doubt it'll be hard to find a decent, cheap but nice-looking men's frame though, there's not as much variance in them as in women's.

*Sigh* I can't wait to go on T.  My therapist said she doubts I will need more than 2 or 3 sessions max, but I gotta go a little slow for my SO...

Hey Mikko...

Slow is good, you may be ready, but if you love your SO then their feelings will be better served by taking your time.

Therapists.... well I don't have many good words to say about them...

Yeah...  I don't need therapy.  I know who I am and what I need to do.  I just need the letter.  So I'm not going to sit in therapy wasting time and money while I'm not prepared in the rest of my life to move ahead...  I'll wait and have my 2 or 3 sessions with long periods of rest in between for my SO to catch up to me.  I've had all my life to get ready for this, he's only had a few weeks.

Another picture!  I'm getting a bit more comfortable with a style...  Been doing a lot of shopping, Kohl's and Goodwill :D  I love this new shirt, it has little pleats on the front so it's extra stiff and hides my chest *extremely* well.  I'm passing all the time...  And holy crap, I love guy's pants.  You can actually fit stuff into the pockets.  And they cost so much less than girl's.  It's great.

Justin (my SO) and I went to an ice cream place and these two little boys were running around like crazy...  I went into the girl's bathroom, force of habit I guess, and when I came out one of the little boys said "You went in the wrong bathroom!"    I even fooled a 5-year-old :)

Wow, you look really good in that last picture.  I thought it was a bit androgynous--more on the male side-- in your last one, but this one solidly looks male.  That's funny about the bathrooms.  I hope you don't get in trouble for using the wrong bathroom.

You might be surprised. I don't value therapists themselves very much... but I've come to think of them like tarot cards - they can be a useful tool to see into yourself, to see things you might otherwise have missed without that outside, exterior prodding. But that power and insight isn't in the therapist (or cards) - it's in yourself.

LOL, yea, it's NOT fair. I really love girl jeans, but... what's with the 1/2" deep pockets? I can't even get a cell phone in there. It's a conspiracy between the clothes and purse manufacturers I tell ya...

Thanks for the positive reinforcement, folks :)  I think looking more male is kind of coming out of feeling more comfortable in dress and caryying myself more and more confidently...

And yeah, I have *always* thought that women's clothing was a vast conspiracy...  Ever try to buy a cheap pair of jeans?  They make the sizing ridiculous so that if you normally wear a two, you have to get a 9 or 12 at the cheap store for it to fit...  Thus you have to go to the expensive store to get a reliable size AND they run big so you can get a smaller size than usual and thus by spending $40 more, you feel better about yourself.  At Forever 21 I was a 7 or 9.  At Old Navy I was a 4, Gap and Banana Republic I was a 2.  At Express I was a 0!  THE WHOLE MARKET IS IN COLLUSION!

Men's jeans are measured in inches.  I don't even have to try them on to know they'll fit.  Man, that is liberating. It now takes 10 minutes to choose a pair of jeans instead of anywhere from 2 hours to 2 days o_o

You know how there's that stereotype that women take forever shopping?  It's cuz the damn patriarchal society makes women's sizing completely random so you have to try everything on.  Which allows men to patronize them further by reinforcing the stereotype that women are indecisive.

Male feminist here :P

Lol! :D  I also have some of those 1/2" deep pockets too.  You can't get a cellphone in those ones.  I have a few pairs where the pockets are like 4" deep, so I can actually place stuff in them, but it makes it so you have bulges in your pants.  I think you might be onto something with your conspiracy theory.

With the cheap jeans, you just learn your size in the cheap jeans and then you can keep going back to that store.  Problem solved. :) With the varying sizes, you are right about having to try everything on.  I've become good at eyeing sizes and many times pick out the right thing the first time, so shopping doesn't take so long.  You'll know the market is a collusion when they have to start resorting to using negative numbers or possible letters for sizes. ;)

I think I just figured out another part of the conspiracy.  It seems the more expensive the jeans are, the shorter the pockets.  Maybe they realize you won't have any cash left by the time you've bought the expensive jeans, so they figure you don't really need the pockets.

Hahahaha, so true!  I have a funny butt, I commiserate with black girls all the time cuz normal pants that fit around my butt don't fit my waist, which is a common problem for them but not for my flat-butted white friends :P...  The more expensive ones seem to fit right, we used to give each other tips on which brands and stores would fit a ghetto booty, heh.
