Today I had lunch with my colleagues. Those who sat behind me mentioned my exposed white thong. I did not intend it, but it was inevitable as I wore low-rise white capris. I see a few women here who intetionally or carelessly expose their thong when they sit.
When I was in the U.S., a colleage student who privately taught Enlgish to my son always exposed her thong while she sat on a chair.
I purchased 3 white thongs in the U.S. about 5 years ago, and I still like to wear them, because they help ventilate my butt, preventing potential fungal attacks.
Anyway, my white thong is like:

Is it O.K. to wear like this in the U.S. or European countries?
I am not quite sure in this country, but I saw women wear like this in Japanese streets.
Tomorrow, I have to wear a very long tee to cover my butt :-\.

I always thought the look was tacky. Nothing wrong in that, if tacky is what you are out to look like, but the 'whale tail' like all underwear issues - Madonna aside - ought to be worn on the inside, not the outside.
It's tacky, but I don't think that it's usually intentional, just a consequence of how pants and underwear fit. Most women figure it out eventually, and you'll notice women periodically pulling down the back of their shirts or pulling up their pants while they are sitting down.
Not having curvy hips makes the problem worse, since "low-rise" pants that don't come up as high above the hips typically fit better, so for what fits and looks good leaves less room for error. Also, having a long torso or large breasts can make tops not go quite as far down as they should.
This reminded of an email that went around a few years ago.....

From what I understand about US law hun, granted not a whole lot, is that as long as you're not exposing you're rear in public places (like if you mooned someone), it is ok to wear thongs like that. Most people won't even say anything, though some will look. However ok it is, and I've seen plenty of women do it, it is generally seen as either tacky or something the local 16 year old girl would do to get attention. Hope this helps :).
When 16 year old girls do it its hot, when older women do it, its just gross.
You won't get arrested, no. But.. well, at least in my area, you won't be looked too kindly upon. I don't know if your idea of fun is to hear men catcalling all day long, though. It's not mine. [And my girlfriends and I would always think someone with a thong showing is trying way too hard, and failing, at being sexy.]

Thanks for the laugh! That was funny as hell. That first pic though...omfg. nothing tacky about that one!
I also think exposing my underwear is not good idea, especially because I am a dad. Like the photos Bridgette introduced, I see fat men here also unintentionally explose there underwear or belly, but it is generally accepted as normal. When I expose my belly, I have to hear a lot of comments.
Yesterday incident was accidental. Today I met one of those guys who mentioned my thong. I said him that I wear very long tee today by showing my striped long tee. He replied that my thong was so impressive, imprinted in his mind and he will never forget it. We laughted together.
In Japan, it seems that that is a kind of trend:

lol I think the second picture is a plumber...
Barbie, you are usually the paragon of fashion. I love what you wear. I do have to say that yes, it is a bit risque to have a white thong sticking out the top of your shorts. Wear what you want. If you enjoy having your ass flossed, go for it. Just make sure your top covers it when you sit down and you will be fine.

After googling, I found that it is called 'bikini jeans', which was orginally designed and produced in Brazil, then transmitted to Japan and UK.

Even I do not have freedom to wear just short pants here. Only skinny women would be barely allowed to wear those binkini jeans, just during very, very hot summer. However, nearly everybody will say like "3@#@$#@, bitch!".
Barbie~~
We have housing neighborhoods for women who want to dress like that here. We call them trailer parks.
And tube tops were really popular a few years ago.
Two words: "muffin top."
Unless you are anorexic, that's just going to look gross. It looks pretty gross on the anorexic woman in the photos too.
There are some fashions that just ought not be sold in large sizes I think.
haha tekla you always kill me with your remarks, especially that one about trailer parks. I agree that it is tacky, especially if worn like that intentionally. I wear thongs occasionally but keep them hidden for the most part.
Underwear is part of fashion, to some people. Look at the idiot boys who walk around showing their boxers, sometimes a few inches of. If you visit a college campus, following a girl up or down stairs can often give you quite a view. Pretty easy to run out of quarters doing that.
Layering helps prevent it. If you can find extra thin, extra long shirts (Forever21 calls them layering tees and tanks, I believe) you can cover that up even in summer.
My torso is an awkward length because of my scoliosis, so shirts are usually way too long and bunch up, or an inch or two too long when standing and too short sitting.
If I had a body like that I can't say I wouldn't wear it on vacay to an exotic location after a few drinks and some coercing.
I think the exposed thong thing has always been a teens-on-spring-break thing and the trend is probably passing anyway. It's become a cliché associated with trampiness. But if anybody here can class it up, it's you, Barbie.
Oh, thanks so much for generous acceptance.
My butt is not so much voluminous to expose my thong, although a few women here envy my hip (they say theirs droop, but mine looks tight). Just covering it well would be a best for palatable fashion. Women > age 30 could be banned from exposing thong ;D
Barbie~~
One things for sure with all these pics flying about: I need to lose weight before I even consider transitioning. xD I'd wind up looking ridiculous in girl clothes.
Anyways, onto the topic at hand. I have to say that exposing your thong is a bit sluttish, for lack of a better term. No offense to anyone who does it, but I personally wouldn't want to show that.
I've seen some women wear thong swimsuits at some beaches in Calif. Other than small pieces of material covering their nipples and vaginas, they were walking around pretty much naked. I understand someone being proud of their body, but thought that was a bit over the top. I've also notice that it is a bit of a trend for the younger girls to wear a thong with low rise jeans. But not quite as low rise as the Japanese girls
Miniskirt Biggest Eyesore at Workplace
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2009/07/117_48016.html (http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2009/07/117_48016.html)
In the survey of 1,254 workers, about 74 percent said they felt upset with their co-workers' attire. Around 56 percent of them cited micro-miniskirts, or a skirt eight to 10 inches above the knee, as their chief complaint.
Shirts showing cleavage, low-rise pants that reveal underwear when bending over, ``killer heels'' that exceed 10 centimeters, or outfits that are too flashy were others offered in reference to females.

O.K. I got it.
Barbie~~
American women are pretty much dress very drab at work, dark colors, full cuts, long lengths. Unless you're working a street corner or at Hooters.
My high rise, but loose fitting jeans + thong = Oh hey, glad Forever21 layering tees are so long.
Made me think of this thread
I just don't like it.

QuoteWomen > age 30 could be banned from exposing thong
Females over the age of 3 do not expose their underwear.
Intentionally exposing, no,
an innocent peak, well...
but a white thong just barely visible through light colored pants can be interesting.
I'm not a fan of thongs, except maybe the edible thong (http://www.britishcondoms.co.uk/rude-food/edible-thong.html) :)
