Title: True Blood
Post by: Crypt77 on July 03, 2009, 12:31:44 AM
I am not the type to jump on to the recent vampire-craze sweeping very teeny bopper in the world (even though I have been into vampire stories since I was a kid having been obsessed with Anne Rice for a while) but I finally started to watch the show, True Blood  (http://www.hbo.com/trueblood/season2/) and man do I have to say, it's pretty darn good. So far I have loved the different characters featured in the show, and they have some pretty interesting ideas of Vampire in it.

I'm seriously considering getting the books after I finish watching season 1 of the show (I'm on the last few ep). Anyone else watching it? :D

yes I watched the whole first season. I started watching it because I adore Anna Paquin, but I really got into the show and the other characters. I reckon Bill the vampire is kinda hot in an undead sort of way. Buffy it ain't lol

Hahaha! Honestly I love Bill's (actor: Stephen Moyer) voice. I don't think he's "the most beautiful thing in the world" like how most of my friends have said however he is handsome and not that hard to look at.

I just started watching it. Went through the whole first season before the second season premiered. I'm in love with it. Lol. Every character is kind of addicting in a messed up way haha. I just love saying Sookie xD

Haha most definitely. "Sookie"...it just rolls right off the tongue. Than you say it in that country accent and it's even more entertaining (Like how Bill says it)

I have been watching True Blood since it started. I have been hooked ever since it began. I have always been into the whole vampire thing but this one tops them all. It is funny, suspenseful and I am always eager for the next episode, only cause they are like "I'm gonna kill you." fade to credits.

season 2 has been very good so far. I actually gave up on this show after about the 10th episode and then got caught up right before season 2 started. at first I didn't really care for MaryAnne's character or plot lines, but she has added a different element to an already facinating show.

tomorrow's episode looks to be action packed! I can't wait too see what happens to sookie!!

most shows I find myself letting them pile up on the DVR and then watching 3 in a row. true blood was that way in season 1, but I've been really anxious for each new episode of season 2. :)

with so many sites that stream shows these days, TVs will be obsolete in no time.

Well the TVs will not be obsolete just the stations and networks, however, if it goes the way of the newspaper, the only thing left on webTV will be reruns of old shows and the kind of crap that's on U-Tube.

TVs have already essentially become monitors since we have gone HD. if there aren't any television stations you can hardly call them televisions anymore, right? :)

I love True Blood!  It's a great series and there is no advertising.  I don't watch advertising.  So I tend to watch non advertising TV more than other networks.  I don't mind paying for no-ad television.  I just wish that I could dump the full of ad content and just have the pay for TV.

In any case, I love the plots, the characters, the somewhat fresh view of vampires and the new twists that they put into their characters.  I have followed the series from the beginning.  I am also thrilled with the analogies they are throwing at us concerning some organized religion, bigotry, and hatred.  Very cool slams.

On the flight from LA to Sydney (Qantas) they had the entire first season available on the seat screens. As that flight is some 14 hours 45 minutes long that's enough time to watch all 12 one hour episodes back to back and still have a nap lol

I've been watching since the first episode of the first season. I always liked vampires and these aren't the teeny bopper cute and cuddly vampires. :D

I just finished watching the Season 2 finale, and I'm somewhat skeptical of how it ending. However, I can't really say much about it without spoiling it, so I'm probably going to read all the books before Season 3 starts. I mean, the finale was alright, but 2 of the events starting in Season 3 seem to have already been done in both Season 1 & 2. I'm not sure how well the television series rates to the book series, but, uh, let me know you all felt about the finale, alright?

I liked the finale. It definitely left me hanging! I can see how it was somewhat like season one's finale, but, there are quite a few differences, so, it was alright in my book. hah.

Also, I've heard that the television series doesn't really follow the books, but, I haven't read them myself, so, I wouldn't know other than word of mouth.

I liked how they handled Jessica, sorta imagined her going that way when her problem became apparent. But yeah, there were quite a few differences between the Season 1 and 2 finales. I don't like what's going on with Bill, or Tara & Andy.

that finale was odd. definately a rollercoaster pulling with my emotions, lol. I can't wait for season 3 to start!

I've also heard that the series isn't following the books at all other than having the same characters, but can't confirm.

They started showing this a few weeks ago in the UK and, although I'm not a big fan of vampire-themed programmes/books, I love this programme and am enjoying it. The last vampire related programme I watched was Buffy when I was a teenager.

I'm the same way about vampire stuff. I despise the twilight stuff and all the recent teenage vampire stuff and was never into the anne rice stuff either, but I appreciate true blood because it's vampires in a different way.

I got a little bored with season 1 around episodes 6-10, but stick with it! it picks back up :)

Same for me, only trade out the UK for Iceland.

have they announced a date? I'm guessing it's not going to be until fall 2010... sigh...

I don't think they've said anything about a date. Which is so annoying! :P I want to know what happens, and if it will be anything like the 3rd book.

Oh and I don't know if you can see, but thats a True Blood (Fangtasia) shirt I'm wearing in my avatar :)

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is that Michelle Forbes (Maryanne Forrester) at around :50?

After seeing her in Razor and then True Blood it's nice to see something a little lighter from her  :icon_lips:

That show is so bad it's good, give it a try before you start knocking it lol

This last Christmas I got the first book in the series that True Blood is based off of, Sookie Stackhouse. It had some good points but over all reading it just pissed me off. The thing I love about the show is that it's an ensemble story with some great characters. The book being written from Sookie's point of view really cuts down on how much you see of them and I found Sookie's obsession with herself and her looks in the book annoying when you just wanna get to some action. lol

You should read club dead. Its so far favorite of the whole series. I really hope they have bubba and alcide in the show. lol

but sookie can get very annoying in the books.
I like how the books are a bit different then the shows. So you can read them and not destroy plots in the show.

Yeah, I think I'd be more interested in reading more from the series if it was written in 3rd person so that I wouldn't have to read stuff like "I was going to have to run for my life, so I put on a pair of jeans and tied my hair up" I don't care what you're wearing! There were at least 3 incidents in the first book where she starts going on about her makeup and clothes where it doesn't really add anything to the story.

I also didn't like that Tara wasn't in the book and that Lafayette had such a small role.

Though I do like Bubba and the danger he poses for Sam. :P

Tara is in the books but very small role also. Shes in club dead more so.

but i agree the show is way better.

It's a guilty pleasure of mine. Personally, the romance is too ham-handed for me, but the rest of it is great. My favorite scene has to be when Bill finds Eric taking a bath in his house with Old Swedish music playing and says, "I texted you three times. Why didn't you reply?"

I dislike most vampire fiction, but I play vampire roleplaying games (aw yeah V:tM oldskool) - and the lack of "BWOOOO WE'RE SO DARK AND MYSTERIOUS" in True Blood that tends to be apparent in most vampire fiction is a plus, and they aren't totally weepy and harmless either. Even Bill is a jerk and kills people sometimes.
