The change in policy was debated for the last couple of years after advocates for transgender students pushed the university to allow "gender neutral'' housing. They said some transgender students feel uncomfortable rooming with students of the same biological sex when they actually identify with the opposite sex.
LOL where have people been the last 40 years. We had coed dorms in the 60's.
Yeah, all the dorms where I was an undergrad were co-ed, except two, one all male and one all female for those that wanted those choices.
Co-ed dorms aren't the same as co-ed dorm rooms. We only had those at my college in the '90's when people moved into their girlfriend or boyfriend's rooms.

Well we had them in the 60's.
I think that the difference here is its a State school, private colleges and universities tend to be a few decades ahead of their government controlled counterparts.

SUNY is a state school. We swapped roommates in coed dorms as the RA's an MA's were just revolutionary Grad students. Then we had 400 state troopers surround the Admin building as the students took it over. Today's kids are too worried about diplomas.

Silly kids today.
