Title: How long on T before chest hair and does surgery have anything to do with growth
Post by: Nero on July 08, 2009, 08:35:09 AM
Hey guys.
How long on T before you grew any chest hair? Does having top surgery interfere/slow down growth?
I'm not particularly bothered as I don't want a forest anyhow, but just wondering when it usually starts happening. Chin pubes have already commenced.

Lucky bugger  :P

Almost 6 months on, and no chin anything yet.  No chest hair, either.  I've got slightly thicker blonde fuzzies at the corners of my lips.  My happy trail is *just* starting to darken, though the hairs are still soft.  I get the feeling this is really something that's down to genetics.  The guys in my family just aren't hairy.  My dad has a small patch on the middle of his chest, similar to Type I shown on Wikipedia's chest hair article.  My grandfather has a couple scant hairs around his nipples and that's it.  Got any male relatives you can ask?

But I'd also be interested to know the growth timeline of other guys.  From the Wikipedia article, chest hair development typically occurs in later puberty (16-19) for natal males, though it can start as early as 12-13.  It seems that for a lot of guys in their 20's, chest hair development is not yet complete...  so for us, I imagine it could also take a long while.  Unless you are hair-gifted and have the genetics of a bear, of course.

One year on T and no chest hair.

Arm hair?  Check.  Leg hair?  Check.   Kinda sorta patchy beard hair?  Check.  Gut hair?  Check.  Chest hair?  Major Fail.

when i went in for surgery around 3.5 months on t, i had about eight or ten chest hairs.  once surgery was over, i finally got the surgical binder off, etc, it was probably more like fifty.  when i saw brownstein 60 days later, he commented that i now had more chest hair than he does.

I've been on T about the same amount of time as you, Nero.  Lots of arm and leg hair showing up, and several chest hairs.  But my voice still hasn't dropped beyond the little bit it did the first week.  :(  But like I say, I come from pretty hairy stock.  I fully expect to be a bear.

I was three and a half months on T and had a few stray chest hairs and about eight or ten new hairs growing around each areola. Now that my areolas have been resized, I imagine that the little hairs are gone. Sigh. I'll know in a couple of days when I have my areola stitches taken out.

My dad is pretty hairy, so I'm hoping to have just enough chest hair someday to make my scars less visible. I don't want to be a woolly mammoth, though.

I never used to want chest hair, but I wouldn't mind that diamond kind of pattern.

No T  :(  Only hair on legs arms and sideburns which are soft but light brown. I also have like 10 black long hairs on upper lip, not sure what gives with that.

But then I always had hairy legs, told sisters why shave when I can just wash and go in grade school.

Now if only I could get the T and change my face and fat behind.

I'm roughly 11 months on T. I've always had dark hairs all over (never really had the peachy almost can't see it body hair like most females) chest hairs began to get noticeable a few months ago, and now have a distinct pattern at the centre of my chest. Always had nipple hair, just a lot more of them now.

I'd say genetics are a big contributer.. I don't expect to see much of a chest hair growth myself, both my brother's are hairless.. Heck, one of 'em is so hairless that his legs would pass as woman's carefully groomed legs!

It probably would've been good if I'd written out when things happened to me on T, but I didn't. As I recall, I had a lot of chest hair by about 6 months on T, but it came later than hair on my face and stomach. Facial hair was the first thing to appear... it started thickening and spreading from about the first week I was on T, and I recall being able to grow a full beard by about 3 months. My stomach hair darkened and grew like mad starting around month 2, and arm hair spread. My legs are still kinda sparse on the hair side... but it's still spreading. I come from a family where the guys tend to be pretty furry, so I expect it won't ever stop. However, I often envy you guys who aren't too hairy... most chicks I know don't really dig hairy guys.

I had some hair around the nipples pre-T.  Now after my first month at half-dose I see a good number of them starting to pop in and will probably have even more once I am allowed to move up to full-dose.

I wonder if this is a social convention thing. Don't a lot of movie stars and male models shave their chest hair?

For my part, I've always preferred less hairy men, but I do like furry arms and legs. After I came out of the closet, I started to appreciate chest hair. That shift seems a bit weird to me; but once I started to visually indulge in men men men, I started to realize that most men in my age group don't have pubescent-looking chests anymore. My ex is an exception. Forty-two and practically no chest hair at all.

Back hair still bothers me, though. I don't know if I'll ever get used to that, and I certainly hope I never get any myself!

Nero, are the men in your family pretty hairy?

Not as far as body hair. about average body hair. but my Dad could double for Moses or Santa in the beard department.

4.5 years on T and just a thin line of hair around my chest surgery scars, which became more visible after hysto, but you really need the sun shining in the right direction and very good eyesight to see them. I'm hoping that that will thicken and darken because it's right along the DI scar line.

Hmm. Well, you might not be like your father.

Is chest hair generally slow to grow in transmen? I mean, it frequently takes years and years for cisgender men to get a full chest of hair, so are transmen just following the same trajectory, or are they slower overall?
