Just rented this (I use Netflix so that I can access much more even though I live in a small Mississippi town) sad tragic movie retelling Calpernia Adam's experience with a man. This is a must watch for a M to Female TS. No matter what your orientation is, you can relate and have feelings about what a person has done and died for, to be with the woman (transsexual) that he loves. The story is marvelous for anyone in a relationship. I am thankful that there are people willing to love us, and stick up for whats right. And not let pressure from others (or rules and laws) affect the true feelings.

Soldier's Girl (2003)
The Showtime original movie SOLDIER'S GIRL tells the true story of Private Barry Winchell (Troy Garity), a 21-year-old soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, KY who was savagely beaten to death because of his love affair with Calpernia Adams (Lee Pace) a transsexual nightclub singer from Nashville, TN. The ostensibly heterosexual Winchell meets Calpernia while out on the town with his infantry buddies and surprises even himself when he decides to date the vulnerable pre-op transsexual. As the relationship blooms, it infuriates Winchell's unstable roommate Justin Fisher (Shawn Hatosy), who incites fellow soldier Calvin Glover (Philip Eddolls) into murdering Winchell with a baseball bat. This movie is a scathing indictment of the machismo and homophobia that permeate a soldier's life, SOLDIER'S GIRL is also a tragic and sweet story of a love that dared to transcend gender stereotypes.

I have this one in my video collection it's a hard movie to watch. I live about 10 minutes south fom Fort Campbell, Ky. The action by those soldiers is not reflective of our area. For the most part Clarksville, TN and Fort Campbell, KY is a very accepting area.
Great movie, telling a tragic story as usual. I would love to see a love story, with struggles, but a happy ending. I might be waiting a while for that.

Just thought I'd reawaken this topic because I just watched this film and it seriously is just as good as people think.
Heart breaking, of course, but utterly touching and brilliant, and the actors are beyond talented in their portrayals of this true story.

but OMFG i didnt realize lee pace plays the girl..... like its thranduil(elf king) in the hobbit trilogy!!!! and his one of my fave LOTR characters.. and i've loved this movie for a long time. im shocked i didnt realized it ;D
I probably would have skipped this movie when it popped up on Showtime a while back. But I remember that Susan had met Calpernia one time, so I said, what the hey, I'll watch it. Yes it is a sad film. I grew up in that sort of crap. I know a serviceman died. I also knew other trans women who were murdered or sold. I saw a lot of really bad ->-bleeped-<-e when I lived in the Hollywood area in the late 80s.

This was a wonderful movie, it had me crying at the end. It is now in my collection.
